Wow! Just WOW!

Nothing to WOW about is there, just some people's ignorance is unbelievable !

Ignorance? You're talking about the Pope and you accuse others of ignorance????

Priceless.

2 questions;
1. Why does every thread about religion that appears on here inevitably end up in bickering and squabbling?

2. Why do the mods allows such threads to develop into the whingefests that they invariably become?

1. Pretty much every thread ends up in bickering and squabbling at some point.
'Religion' threads are simply an ecumenical version of the 'Mancini In/Mancini Out' ones upstairs.
Now I don't really care to hear Billy and Dismal preaching to their half dozen disciples and re-enacting Groundhog Day every time I go on those threads,so experience has taught me to leave them to it,and let them go around in ever-decreasing circles if they want to.
Precisely the same applies here.
You know what you are getting into on a 'religion' thread,so if you don't like what you know you are about to see, then don't click on the thread.
There are literally hundreds of alternatives daily, some of which, like the 'I Found My Girlfriend Being Bukkake'd By The Entire Personnel Of An American Aircraft Carrier In Piccadilly Gardens - Could She Possibly Be Cheating On Me' relationship ones, bore me shitless.
So guess how I deal with them?
Yep - You get the picture?
Religion will always be a contentious issue,as folk tend to have strong beliefs either way,so disagreement goes with the territory.
Same as politics,or other highly debatable topics, like muffin/barm.
If you want a sterile talking shop full of acquiescent nodding Churchill dogs who shoot the breeze over 'What Is Your Favourite Flavour Of Crisps' type threads where the atmosphere resembles a Women's Institute tea party, then be my guest, but count me out.

2. The moderators job is not to dictate the content and/or direction of threads,it is merely to enforce the Code of Conduct.Maybe you think you could a better job, however,in which case go for it and pm Ric a CV,as I believe a vacancy has arisen.

They obviously failed to enforce point # 10 and 14 is never enforced!

Edit: One Mod did try and enforce point #10 :O)

The irony of you bringing up #10
Remember referring to me as someone that is hard to "flush away"?, ie, a piece of shit.
Fucking hypocrite, standard for someone of your belief's though, eh?

So another **** gets to live a life of luxury while most of his followers live in abject poverty.

He's far from a ****, he's a very humble man that travelled on public transport and has helped many people in poverty. Found it very moving yesterday as we joined him in prayer on live TV.
I use a bus everyday and have done a lot for charity

So His Holiness is a bus wanker?
Can I have his bulletproof Popemobile?
Now a Pope who trusts God so much that he needs a bulletproof car really does force us to completely redefine the word 'irony'.

Right so I should just ignore everything bad and wrong about a web of lies because it means I have a football club to support

Here are some snippets of you very humble man

Doctrinal compliance on abortion, euthanasia, and contraception

In 2007, as Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio presented the final version of a joint statement of the bishops of Latin America – the "Aparecida Document" – upon its approval by Pope Benedict XVI. The document links worthiness to receive the Eucharist, to compliance and acceptance of Church teaching against "abominable crimes" such as abortion and euthanasia:

"We hope that legislators, heads of government, and health professionals, conscious of the dignity of human life and of the rootedness of the family in our peoples, will defend and protect it from the abominable crimes of abortion and euthanasia; that is their responsibility ... We should commit ourselves to 'eucharistic coherence', that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive Holy Communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortion, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals."

Bergoglio has also encouraged his clergy and laity to oppose both abortion and euthanasia, describing the pro-choice movement as a "culture of death", and had opposed the free distribution of contraceptives in Argentina.
Homosexuality

Bergoglio has affirmed church teaching on homosexuality specifically that homosexual actions are immoral.
Gay marriage

He opposes same-sex marriage, and unsuccessfully opposed legislation introduced in 2010 to allow same-sex marriage in Argentina, calling it a "real and dire anthropological throwback." In a letter to the monasteries of Buenos Aires, he wrote:

"Let's not be naïve, we're not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God."

Gay adoption

In this context, Bergoglio is also opposed to adoption by same-sex couples[clarification needed], arguing that it threatened the "identity [...] and the survival of the family: father, mother and children." He stated that "children [...] are discriminated against in advance depriving them of human growth that God would be given to a father and a mother."

I especially like the contraceptive bit which will essentially condemn many more Africans to death.
