The Nigel De Jong Appreciation thread

How much did we actually get for him? Can't find it anywhere.
Is it £3.5m? For the best Dutch player at the Euros (the only Dutch player who played well in fact), one of the best players in his position in the world and he's only 27... as bad a deal as shelling out £17m on Santa Cruz for me.

Jesus Christ! I assumed it would have been at least 10m!

I recall him saying recently he'd happily spend the rest of his career at City :(. Absolutely gutted he's leaving. Never again will I allow myself to become emotional attached to a player. Best of luck Nigel.

I've referenced the Champions League prize money a few times over the last few days. If we progress from the Grouo Stage to the Round of 16 (something we'd be able to do more easily with Nigel in the squad) we'd earn £2.37m (off last years figures). So we could have held on to him until next Summer and let him go for free and get a huge deal for himself and hardly missed out on anything overall.

I just hope we've got something lined up and we're being sensible.

if he really doesn't want to be rotated then selling him is fair enough (though he should play most of the games), but for so little money???

You sell him for 10m+ or not at all. Pathetic.

Buy Rodwell for 13m and sell NDJ for 3m........deary me.

A sad day.

He has etched his name into the greatest moment in our long history.

Nice touch by Mancini and the club to include him in the team photo today, despite knowing it was in the off.

He will no doubt be a welcome visitor in the long years to come and when my little lad asks me about him, I will say, De Jong, top player, and never gave an inch.

Good luck.

watch him knock us out of the CL. unbelievable mistake this.

One of my favorite players I do not understand this transfer at all? I always thought he would one day be captain.

Mancini rates Garcia as more versatile and De Jong would leave on a free in 12 months anyway. He only played in 14 league games last season and isn't worth the neigh on £200k per week he wants.
