All the while this has been happening here, my area has been covered in thick black cloud. Doh!Lots of cloud tonight might make it tricky.

Do you have a link to that map ?Nice, the aurora map I watch last night had pretty much the entire UK covered. never seen that before. Typically cloudy everywhere.
Good chance here tooWest of the UK supposedly getting them tonight after 9pm, as far south as Glasgow, some reports claim.
My niece flew to Iceland but saw nothing. While she was away the Aurora appeared in Yorkshire, not far from her home!
How do you get the Aurora in Idaho and we don’t in Manchester when we’re about 10° further North than you?View attachment 93876
Had a little action again last night
Not sure, maybe just clearer skies ? Maybe elevation ? I'm not even in the Northern part of the StateHow do you get the Aurora in Idaho and we don’t in Manchester when we’re about 10° further North than you?
The best display I've ever seen was in Northants when I was growing upHow do you get the Aurora in Idaho and we don’t in Manchester when we’re about 10° further North than you?
Although Manchester is closer to the geographic north pole, Idaho may be closer to the magnetic north pole (which is in northern Canada) and it is the charged particles being funnelled in to the magnetic poles that causes the aurora. Plus you probably have far better chances of dark skies in Idaho than Manchester which makes it easier to see.How do you get the Aurora in Idaho and we don’t in Manchester when we’re about 10° further North than you?
Looks like some of the ones my brother has done. He lives in Tassie as well.
