Manchester City midfielder Gai Assulin has spoken of his plans to drop down to the Championship in the new year.

The Israeli starlet has acknowledged he has little chance of breaking into City's first team squad that currently tops the Premier Division.

"I need confidence and I can only get that by playing regularly," Assulin said. "City and I both feel that I should go out on loan so I can play every week.

"I could stay in England or maybe join a team in the Spanish second division."

Assulin, 20, has reunited with agent Pini Zahavi who told the player to lower his sights to get valuable playing time after leaving Barcelona last year.
He's our biggest mystery signing.

After Glauber Berti! A new classic thread in the making?

He has been injured recently and I think the target was to get back to training again this week.

Joorabchian wouldn't waste his time on Assulin.

Assulin finally has his loan move and has joined Barnsley until January!

And finally Chris Chantler will have a taste of first team football as he is joining Carlisle for the same length of time.

MCFC_NGEN_ACAD the reputable City youth guy on Twitter seems very irate with the state of the youth setup lately. He's moaning about a lack of bite in midfield again and not learning from mistakes in previous NextGen games. No Suarez or Rekik tonight, both injured or Carling Cup duty beckoning?

I notice Sean Tse is playing again today, he had a long injury and is back now, looks like he will be sold off before too long though with Chantler.

Suarez is playing. Currently watching a Barca - Celtic stream. The three teams in our group are probably the strongest in the entire competition group. Celtic is the biggest surprise to me.

City 1-2 Marseille means City have lost 6 out of 6 in the NextGen, which is over for us now. I suppose the positive as a team is that it was a close result like the opener against Barcelona. Unfortunately we were the only club out of 16 to neither win a game or get a single point.

Barca beat Celtic 5-1 today to top the group on 15pts, ahead of Marseille on 12pts, Celtic on 6pts, and City on 0pts.

Liverpool, Villa, and Spurs all qualified from the group stages.

Pretty poor showing from Manchester City, whatever way you look at it.

Any idea when the draw for the knock-out phase is?

Yes. I don't want to get involved in the "winning" vs. "how much they learned individually" argument again as I believe both have their merit but I'm not sure how anyone can look at our debut NextGen campaign and not be disappointed in some way.

It makes no sense to me as we have a good academy who are doing well in the Premier Youth League and are top of their group on goal difference. Having a different coach for this tournament might be part of the reason as the tactics have seemed to be poor, especially with midfield.

I don't know, my interest in NextGen is now more or less at an end personally (till next year). :P

But I would rather pick players from winners side not losers side.
Its whether the players are not good enough or the coach and his staff including the scouting are not good enough.

I don't follow them either, except in the NextGen League.

Did we really have a different coach for the NextGen? I though that our academy team opted out of the academy league and only play in the NextGen + domestic youth cup tournaments?

I'm really disappointed in our efforts and searching for any sort of explanation.

Correction: Our EDS team opted out of the Barclays Reserve League. We are still active in and top of our Academy group(IIRC).

EDS coach is Welsh, U18 coach is Sadler so it's the U18 side + a few others like Roman being coached by Welsh. Bit strange really.
