The official EDS and academy thread 2011/12

Best of the U16s moved up to U18s and best of U18s waiting for the EDS game with Tranmere in a couple of days. Debacle! And jeopardizing the U18s chances of winning their league (someone will tell me it means nothing but everyone wants to win at every level). But unavoidable with so many older reserve boys out on loan or just sold now.

Seems to be a complete mess at the moment our reserves/academy

couple of tweets from academy players today:

brandon barker: "had an alright morning played 16's and 18's :)"

dominic mchale: "Lost 3-0, hate when i get played out of my position... can't get the ball:/"

not good to see for two reasons. firstly, player 1 has to represent 2 age groups in quick succession (this happened last week, with 3 out of 5 subs against liverpool coming straight from an u16 match. playing for different teams straight after each other can't be good can it? risking injury and disjointed performances.

secondly, player one says his morning was 'alright'. losing 3-1 then 3-0 (to bottom of the league bolton) is alright is it??

then there is player 2, who 'hates' playing out of position (presumably wide in a 4-3-3 rather than upfront in a 4-4-2, or vice versa - this is what happened against liverpool). He is an arrogant bastard imo, last week on LTV he was doing tricks when he should have just kept the ball, and was quite lazy. not a good attitude to have, he looks poor and hasn't got a good mentality. he won't make it.

surely it's beneficial for young players to be playing regularly with each other to gain understanding of each other. All this chopping and changing with sides surely cannot help?

our academy and reserves are a complete mess, always changing the teams and a lot of them dont get a chance to play at all now

We need to sort this out, the academy sounds like a mess at the moment and we'll be ruining a potentially good crop of players. We have some real talent at the moment and id love to see some of them get good careers.

i don't get all this 'a player can't play for u18s if he is gonna play for EDS in 2 days time' bollocks.

these players are young, they need to play and be tested. The more they play, the more they will develop and the easier it will be to judge ability and mentality etc. When these players become professionals then they need to be rested, but they are 16, 17, 18 and will gain little from being rested.

Match tomorrow in the central league cup against Tranmere.

Are Tranmere and Bury reserves really the opposition we should be testing ourselves against?

Hopefully next season the club will realise its mistake and re-enter the reserve league. Liverpool play in the reserve league aswell as the next gen so it can be done and I think united are doing both next season.
