The official EDS and academy thread 2011/12

2-1 to Fulham with 8 minutes left, looks like our highly rated U18s are crashing out of the Youth Cup unless of a late salvo.

I hope their will be a chance to see this match, hopefully somebody can put up some links as their was with the eds team. If anybody saw the game, i wonder how Evans was doing?

Anybody know about anything special happening in the Abu Dhabi academy? Just find it weird that our recent Spanish recruit, Angel Pozo is somehow in Abu Dhabi.

Vieira tweeted

"I'm on the way to the airport. This time I'm heading to Abu Dhabi to meet some of the Academy players and coaches who are out there"

may explain

I went mate and City were awful, never strung 4 passes together all night. Evans might as well not have been on the pitch and struggled with cramp during the second half, City missed Suarez big time, no midfield drive or tenacity.

Whilst there is no doubt the better team won I wouldnt be quite as harsh. After a dozy frist 10 minutes wwe were the better side in the first half and deserved to be ahead I thought. Most of the pressure was from City and there was a real threat from Henshall. Our back line were playing quite well and dealing with Fulham quite easily although they were clearly a decent, energetic side.

The disappointment for me in the first half was how anonymous Devante Cole and Albert Rusnak were.In the second half Fulham were much more attack mindede and basically controlled it from there on.I would agree we struggled to put passes together and when the threat of Henshall disappeared we offered very little.

Their first goal not surprisingly came from us giving the ball away very badly and Fulham just broke quickly and swept it home easily. It also came just aftera double substitution for Fulham which definitely improved their attacking flair. It felt like a matter of time before the 2nd came as we were hanging on and it was a very good goal through our inside right channel.

As I said Fulham much the better side overall and we just lacked passing quality.Rusnak never really influenced the game and apart from one run from Cole neither did he I thought. Evans in the middle misplaced far too many routine passes but did other parts of his job quite well.Hiwula I felt showed good movement and took his goal well.

As for Rekik and Suarez.Suarez is with the Spain under 19's and back soon whilst I assume Rekik is with the first team.Strange he didnt play as I doubt he will with the first team and might not even make the bench.

I was impressed with Fulham's left back and no9. apparently they signed the no9 for £200k from Luton.
We seemed to struggle with both their full backs bombing forward and not being tracked.
However, on a positive the attitude of the city bench was great. Adam Sadler was constantly talking to the players and never once had a go at a player who made a mistake, unlike Kit Symons at times.
The youngsters at the club clearly have someone there who will teach them the right attitude and bring them on as people as well as players.

I know playing time is highly valued, and rightly so, but I think the experience Rekik gets from going with the first team squad and sitting with the team in the stands (even if he isn't in the 18) in places like Porto, Anfield for a semi-final, etc. are as equally as important. Not many 17 year olds get to be in that position, and we have him on the fast track.
