The Panic

Just heard Steve Claridge on 5Live say he likes all these clubs throwing money about as it shows how strong the Premiership is.
He also said its good to see the English clubs buying again, as we haven't spent any money for 18 months. I must have missed that club that was ruining football, I'm sure they bought the odd player.....what was their name ?

After watching that shambles yesterday it seems to me we have a first team not a squad. My main concern is our defence,Kolo is rocky to say the least at the moment,Boateng hasnt quite adjusted yet and right back is totally up in the air, there is no one that is inspiring apart from Kompany.

What about Zabba? He`s been our best right and left back for me this year.

This has been a priceless day as far as transfer windows go, the desperation of 3 clubs has been fantastic, and I'm so glad we have not been involved in any of it.

Carroll - daylight robbery - couldn't be going to a better place - another loyal toon - currently injured and on bail - and The February player on the toon calender.

Torres - not much less really - what's the betting on an early hamstring or groin strain ?

Both will no doubt do OK with their new clubs.

Spurs - desperation personified by Phil Neville or Aguero or Adam, anybody please, but nobody....well done 'arry.

Liverpool aren't panic buying they are shit and are strengthening their team. Chelsea aren't panic buying, they have an aging forward line and nobody to compliment Terry at CB so they've strengthened. Spurs don't think Crouch or Pavlyucenko are good enough so have tried to sign a striker to strengthen.

Why is it panic buying? Because it's not us?

Wrong. Liverpool paniced into buying Carroll as torres told them he wanted to leave 2 days ago. Spurs complete panic with dcattergun bidding and didn't get anyone, why wait till last day when you have a full month? Panic buying without buying at it's best.

I will give you Chelsea two good sigings.

The OP speaks a lot of sense. While I do think we've got the best squad in the league I still think that we need to improve in certain positions & cover for others. I can't see us winning the league for another two seasons so as long as we keep improving performance wise I have no problem with us not splashing the cash every chance we get.

top post it's about steady improvement, top. Four this year with a cup win. Last 8 of champs league next season and a big title challenge and a cup win, win league season after and there or there abouts in champs league. We have bought enough this season let them settle then add again in summer.

We have Mario to come in as well. If we can get him fit and keep him that way he can make a huge difference to our side. 8 goals in 11 games carrying an injury is unbelievable for a lad his age settling in anew country. If carrol is worth 40 million Inc add ons he is worth 120 million. What did we pay for him 24 million. Complete bargain thankfully mancini can pick a player over the moon with our business since he came to city.

Carrol really is the ultimate panic buy no experience, never played in Europe, not a full international. Average in the championship in a title winning side only 6 months prem experience. Currently on bail for assault injured still picked up when he fell off a bar stool in a casino pissed. You couldn't make it up. Got one season wonder written all over him. he will sink like a stone at liverpool IMO.

Would have liked to have seen a short term replacement for AJ to come in.

Hopefully SWP and MJ can play a role at some stage and they will need to assuming Mancini's belief that cannot play the same side or near same side if playing 3 games in seven days holds true.

Not too concerned about Chelsea's new players for the remainder of the season although I have always said we will need a good run with injuries and suspensions to finish ahead of them come season end anyway.

Spurs look like dropping a number of points away from home hopefully 3 against us so that should ensure we finish above them but still a long way to go and we need to find ways of getting points when we go behind or else we are going to make it difficult for ourselves ala Aston Villa away we had enough possession in their half for enough of the game to come away with a point and it was much the same against Everton.
