The Pep 'Survivor List'

I dont think there will be as many changes as people think, it will be done gradually over the next 3 seasons..

Pep will get the best out of what we have and sign 3 or 4 to improve the squad..

Watching that performance — or whatever you want to call it — yesterday got me to thinking who, in my opinion, will definitely survive of this squad, once Pep is in. Now I'm not saying the clear-out will be all at one fell swoop, this summer. But I believe that these players, and these only, are fairly certain of still being at this club and in the squad about fourteen months from now:

Hart
Fernandinho
Silva
Aguero
Iheanacho
Sterling
De Bruyne

Kompany (?)

I put a question mark after Vinny's name because everything depends on him proving that he can get — and stay — fit. Otherwise, I don't see Pep having any patience with him. I honestly think everybody else could be cleared out, or put out to grass. I think players like Clichy, Zab and Sagna have a fine job, as far as they go (and I love Zab as a guy, does it need saying) but I don't think will feel that players of that age will be mouldable to his style.
What's your survivor list?

GOALIES; ;Hart
DEFENDERS; otamendi, Sagna kolarov
Midfielders; ;fernandinho, fernando, Nasri Silva KDB Kompany Navas Yaya Sterling
Strikers; ;;Aguero icheanocho
And that leaves for guardiola to buy 1 goalie 2 defenders 4 midfielders 2 strikers total 24 squad
Rest from eds. .......

I think Pep really prefers a Sweeper. Hart's distribution has improved tremendously over the past 2 seasons; but I don't think he fits Pep's playstyle. And he's certainly not a Sweeper.
Yeah I know and agree but I can't see a City team without Hart right now.

Me either. Hart has been more than good enough for us to win the Quadruple (I think he's top 5 or at worst top 10 among all keepers in the World) this year. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of "long term" survivor.

I suspect that Hart will last a season or two under Pep (can't change every position in a year) but will eventually be moved on for someone better suiting Pep's style.

Well I imagine the majority will vote Fernandinho POTY because he runs around a lot but I dont think Pep will be overly impressed with him. I think there are far more of this squad in danger of being turfed out (including some fan favourites) than will be safe.

Safe:
Kompany
Kun
KDB
Iheanacho

Safeish:
Sterling (because of price)
Silva
Otamendi
Hart

I think the rest are in big trouble.

I'd be amazed if he brings too many in. One or two full backs and a ball playing 'pivot' in CM would be my bet. And I think he will try a few kids and a game by game approach will be a bigger deal.

It's kind of strange to see my opening post quoted several weeks on. Because actually, nobody — but absolutely nobody — of that 'survivor' list played well last night, with the exception of Kevin De Bruyne… Well, alright, he was just o.k.

You lot are ruthless - Silva, arguably the best player we've ever had, off form and injured in a woefully performing side, and you cast him aside. Let's see him regain fitness and see what Pep's influence will do.

Pep's signings? Initially, two, three at the absolute outside. He'll want to see most players play for and under him before deciding. He'll also want to see the youth, close up, before deciding who can make the grade, and who can't.
As to who may or may not go in either the January or summer window at the end of his first year, well, that's perhaps a different story.
Pep's no Malcolm Allison (thank God!)

Of the current players heres my list to keep:

-------------------------------------Hart

_________---------Kompany-----------_________-----------_________

---------------------___________-------Fernandinho

___________-------------------Silva/KDB-----------------------Sterling

-----------------------------------Aguero

Note - Theres a couple in that starting line up that need to improve most notably Silva & Sterling (age on his side).

Subs:
Sagna - Earned it but getting on in age.
Zaba - Purely on loyalty as he has been nowhere near the standard for 18 months now which pains me to say.
Otamendi - Showed us he can be great and awful in equal measure, willing to give him another season with a coach who knows how to set up a defence.
Yaya - Still can have a part to play but getting on in age.
Iheanacho and any of the EDS players.

Nasri - May suit Pep and we generally play better when he's fit.
Mangala - Outside chance of staying because of his age.

The rest of them have showed bits of quality but overall have been poor or some of them have just been poor. New arrivals not mentioned i.e. Delph may not get chance to prove they are of the standard.

That's exactly it for me too. So basically we need 5 new first team players. And some people don't think Pep has a rebuilding job on his hands!

Aguero, Kompany, De Bruyne, Sterling, Hart, Iheanacho, Zabaleta, Fernandinho, Nasri, Delph, Denayer, Mangala.

Apart from that, I really don't know. The likes of Bony, Navas, Clichy, Demichelis, Fernando and Otamendi will surely be gone. They just aren't good enough - some aren't even close. I think both Yaya and Silva will go, neither work hard enough for a Guardiola team. This squad has some incredible players but needs a big overhaul.
