The photos thread

This my great great grandad arthur.

born in 1878 in leek he cycled to manchester to find work in 1898 for work, settling in ancoats. He was the first of our family to support the mighty blues.

got married and had 2 daughters and a son. A daughter died in infancy.
His son, my great grandad, bared my 6 year olds name Albert

he worked as a scaffolder until into his 70s.

he wents to ypres to fight and was gassed out, losing half a lung. Medically discharged he joined back up and fought in galipolli, got caught in a shrapnel blast and lost a few fingers.

married 3 times. Smoked 40 wooodbine a day and when retired would be in the pub every day at 12 , the black boy in wythenshawe i think, for 2 pints.

there is a photo of me somewhere on his knee, be 1974 just after i was born and shortly before he die

nice one arthur

He survived well into living memory of my dad, uncle and nanna so ive always heard quite a bit about him. If it wasnt for him i wouldnt be talking to you now and i like that i can trace my blue supporting heritage to the late 1800’s!!
