The Piccadilly Gardens Problem - new development proposal (P32)

We live in Shropshire now but my mum who is 92 was born and raised in Manchester but not been back for around 45 years keeps asking me if I can take her to see Piccadilly Gardens as it was such a nice place to visit when she was young,
Needless to say I keep making excuses why we cant go :-)

don't get me wrong, Picadilly Gardens has been fucked up, but i always remember it as being a focal point for weirdos, as long as i can remember. Maybe it was different in the 60s/70s?

Probably around the 1940s She used to work at the Callico printers office in Manchester & often used to go to Piccadilly Gardens to sit amonst the flowers to eat her butties, maybe she was doing deals for a bit of spice as well? :-)

Absolutely it was always a place where the homeless hung out but the problem has jumped not to straight weirdoes and dangerous people. There's enough anecdotal evidence to assume that people felt comfortable eating their lunch in the lovely gardens and the police were quick to sort out anyone who became menacing.

The slide happened when they actually built a backdrop for this nightmare and drug dealers and users just took the place over, taking your lunch in the garden (It's not a garden is it?) is like taking in a shit movie about the end of the world.

Theyll bottle or brick ya out of shame, shame is a funny mufferfecka..these are the people who'd say ' what you lookin at' pre smart phones...theyd like to move about and be beyond a pull...if they acheive that they smile..a numb nut could work it out.

was a shihole in the 80s/90s full of tramps on cider/meths, muggers and proffesional beggrs, also had a police van parked up nightly to gaurd the place.

Difference was it was all hidden by hedges and flowerbeds and skcial media goons didn't exist filming said tramps and gamgs

I got mugged twice going through it as a teeneage, I walk through it for work mon - friday now and never had an issue once (older and wiser now so can spot a cumt to steer clear tbf) a shithole still but you can see where the dodgy cunts are bunched in the corners near bar burrito and near Queen Vic so avoid then once the sun goes down especially as the police don't station a van anymore at night and walk round not through

All these youtube bellends walking striaght up to them are gonna get a reaction obviously, and also do it to get one for clicks a lot of the smack heads were hidden away on dale st for years too until they built mala and they migrar

Place is a dump but also looks souless and destitute, but it has been a dodgy place for near 40 years

Don't watch this kind of video but as it's Oldham and I left there 3 years ago I thought why not.

Managed 10 minutes, just fucking awful, I'm amazed all the knuckle draggers knew who the scouse fucker was.

Thoroughly depressing stuff.
 
Veitch and the shitstains around him are making it a whole lot worse. Absolute Parasites stirring up so much hatred and constantly attacking the less fortunate folk. Kids and grown up folk travelling down there to have selfies with these cunts. These are a big part of the problem now and exhausting a lot of police resources.

It needs ending as an open square. Stabbings in Piccadilly Gardens feel like a monthly occurrence now. It’s a failed area and just needs building on and forgotten about ever existing.

Make what is the ‘Gardens’ office blocks with bars and eateries on the bottom floor where people can sit outside, and then make the bus+Met station an indoor area eith an underground feel with a nice open roof above it that can be walked on with nice steps going up with security guards on during the day to stop the dregs of society going up there and lockable at night so nobody goes up there.

It never used to be an open square. That area of the city centre was designed with a huge building (the original MRI and Lunatic Assylum), so there doesn’t need to be a public square there at all.

Also ditch the London-copied name (from the Railway Station up the road n’all) and call the area something else. Piccadilly is in London. Our Piccadilly Station was originally called Store Street Station and then we just pinched the Cockney name in the 1960s… small time behaviour.

But our Piccadilly and Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester has a bad name now so the name needs sending back the London and forgetting about. Call Piccadilly Gardens station ‘Portland Street’ and call Piccadilly Station ‘Manchester Store Street’ again or something completely new, something Mancunian.
