The Piccadilly Gardens Problem - new development proposal (P32)

Make what is the ‘Gardens’ office blocks with bars and eateries on the bottom floor where people can sit outside, and then make the bus+Met station an indoor area eith an underground feel with a nice open roof above it that can be walked on with nice steps going up with security guards on during the day to stop the dregs of society going up there and lockable at night so nobody goes up there.

It never used to be an open square. That area of the city centre was designed with a huge building (the original MRI and Lunatic Assylum), so there doesn’t need to be a public square there at all.

Also ditch the London-copied name (from the Railway Station up the road n’all) and call the area something else. Piccadilly is in London. Our Piccadilly Station was originally called Store Street Station and then we just pinched the Cockney name in the 1960s… small time behaviour.

But our Piccadilly and Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester has a bad name now so the name needs sending back the London and forgetting about. Call Piccadilly Gardens station ‘Portland Street’ and call Piccadilly Station ‘Manchester Store Street’ again or something completely new, something Mancunian.

Piccadilly Station was known as London Road station until about 1960.
My Dad (born 1926) never acknowledged the change of name,and always referred to it as London Road.

But on the whole,. for me, these Youtubers who go to a town, a City, and start filming empty crisp packets on the floor whilst they tell us "This place is the worst in Britain", or the country is going to the dogs, or the City centre is just full of drugs and violence are just filling you with fear, then you demand that we all have IDs for everyone, the police to use excessive powers, for people to be "removed" from the country.

Manchester has some lovely parts and some shit parts just like everywhere else.

I mentioned elsewhere (can't remember if it was this thread or another one). But compare Albert Sq, or St Peter's Sq ( no, not the one in the Vaticann that's worse than the Gardens!), Exchange Sq; there are nice outdoor areas in the City centre. Unfortunately, there are a lot of rundown and neglected areas as well.

Pretty much it in a nutshell, the couple of vids I've seen of him he has that smarmy I'm better than you Scouse attitude that they all have, hahaha I'm so funny laa bullshit, clearly just doing the vids to feed his ego even more, those vids could be made in any town in the country nowadays but he choses to come to Manchester for them,

They come to Manchester because it's the most exciting, liveliest city out of them all. They try the other places but get no content....boring city centres. Always something happening in Manchester...good or bad.

You've nailed it there mate.

I went into town the other week with my boys, I thought we were going to have to run the gauntlet through piccadilly gardens, stepping over crack heads and watching drunks fighting, but was pleasantly surprised to see people having picnics on the grass, there were children playing, a band was playing on some raised decking and people were eating street food and the sun was shining.

I went to Ireland, and from social media, you see a country over-run with immigrants and beggars. People protesting, makeshift tent encampments. I saw nothing of the sort. The same Ireland I have seen all my life.

You see Trump on the news and think that USA is now some sort of basket case, where everyone is racist, fascist, sexist and homophobic, and the billionaires have brainwashed everyone like some sort of second coming of the third Reich, but then I speak to my mate out in Florida and he is out fishing on his boat and having BBQ's with his neighbours and they laugh about the ridiculousness of Trump, just like we do.

I think everybody needs to view social media through the prism of the person filming, and what message that they want to portray, because quite often, these are people with an agenda. And if everyone believes what they view on Facebook, then we will end up with a society of people who are riddled with conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxers, chem trail wierdos and people who are too scared to go outside and see anything for themselves.

Walled off and gated with a guard, make it into a top touriost attraction and also a place for pur expanding east and south east asian residemts to feel welcomed and proud of.

Trust me having drank with some city centre traids in my younger days, no scrote selling meth is gonma fuck about with them
