The leader of Liverpool council is rag supporting Liam Robinson who is is born in Cheshire. Maybe he gives a fuck not like our leader though.

Maybe he doesn't just focus on where he likes to go to be safe to get the funds and the police etc?

This shit brings right wing populism and for all the screaming asking and demanding the incumbent idiots just wont give the society what it wants and needs to survive.

They are in effect inclusioning themselves to oblivion because when someone gets in to do the job they refuse to do they'll be the first ones on the scrapheap, all they have to do is do their job.

There was a time when what is now the 'celebrated' Gay Village in Manchester was widely regarded as an exceptionally seedy, dirty part of the city, populated by perverts and a variety of other undesirables. It was a no-go area for most people after dark.

Ms Craig's comment above reflects the huge change in public attitude over the years in relation to practices/activities that were at some time regarded as unsavoury or deviant by the wider population.

Times change, attitudes change.

Future progress under positive, dynamic leaders with someone like Ms Craig at the vanguard, who knows... We may yet see Piccadilly Gardens as not only an incredibly vibrant, welcoming and safe space for our derelict/addict community, but as a living monument to the progress made by those who fought against bigotry and hatred, and those who dedicated their entire lives to building a more tolerant and inclusive society.

Piccadilly Gardens must be the biggest open space in the City Centre ?
It was always a bit edgy when I moved to Mcr in 1979.
The sunken garden area had a few wino's drinking out of paper bags and they closed the toilets, for whatever reason ?
It was a lot more open and seemed safer.
The development at the Piccadilly Station end and the infamous "Wall" certainly hasn't helped people feeling safe.
But, I haven't been to another British city that has it's centre-piece open space, riddled with as many potentially dangerous, unpredictable and violent people.
If the City Council want Manchester to be securing prestigious events (the Co-op arena is a huge, new attraction) and gaining tourists, then it needs to make Piccadilly Gardens safe.
Bev Craig may have sympathies elsewhere (e.g. the Gay Village, which always seems to be a safe and joyful atmosphere), but Piccadilly Gardens is becoming a huge, scary problem.
Perhaps, Andy Burnham isn't currently involved, but isn't it also a huge opportunity for him, to solve an increasing problem ?

If, as I would expect, Andy Burnham has his eyes on the Labour leadership, he won't be remotely concerned with Manchester for some time.
