Its Guinness time any day of the week.
Yes I know we have a separate thread for all things Rag based but under the circumstances I felt this may warrant a different thread, looking at whats happened to both Leeds and Portsmouth over the last few years could the potential happen at Old Trafford.
Yes, both of the above mentioned teams, were mismanaged off the field, which lead to the horrendous demise and fall into an abyss that is so deep Portsmouth could end up as a non league club.
Having read some of the posts on RagCafe, one issue crops up regularly with the hordes, money.Failing to get into the CL position at the end of the season, not only becomes a financial worry for them, but how do they then attract top quality players, who only seem to move from club to club where this is on offer ?
I accept that its highly unlikely but is it a possibility, that this could then see the wheels come off at full speed, leading to a drop in attendances,tv rights, commercial business and sponsorship. It only takes (I assume) two seasons away from the CL and that would become a catastrophic but unfortunate start of one large implosion.
I suppose I can but dream, but I would love to see this team, its club and supporters go through years of living in the shadow of their main rivals,as we had done for decades.

Far too early to start speculating on any sort of demise, they are only 6 points behind us after all.

What I feel is likely is that they will experience a L'pool like lull in success but not relegation and near bankruptcy, although I'm not an expert on finance.

That Ed Wood statement might sound ridiculous about shirt sales and the like but its true

Its a bigger problem then that though......they have debt secured by bonds / shares which can be called in before its due if they fail to qualify for the CL

I personally can't f*ckin wait

A couple of seasons out of the champions league maybe we could see a plunge in revenue and attendances for them. Does anyone remember them pulling some awful attendances for midweek games against the likes of Wimbledon and Everton in the old Barclays league division one?

The only worrying demise from our point of view would be all the cockney rags jumping ship and then sneakingly latching onto the growth of our club. I hope they all fuck off to the emirates or Stamford bridge instead.

Liverpool is a case in point. They have spent more than 2 seasons away from CL footie, and are still quite highly regarded. It doesn't seem to have hindered their spending, ( Kenny spen a bomb on some right old shite) and they still interest some good talent. Suarez being the latest example.
It's all very we'll dreaming of an immediate collapse in the light of Gollums shitty start this season, but they have the financial infrastructure in place to keep them afloat for a long time yet.
Unfortunately.
Now if the glazers pull out, and throw the board room on its head, things might go a bit topsy for a while, but other than any massive back of house catastrophes, they are already through the "door" and it's now shut for most sides.

Being more realistic, if they were to slump and the Glazers wanted to pull out completely, if the price was right the queue of potential investors / sovereign wealth funds who wanted to invest in such a cash cow would be round the corner.

Not really......People invest because they believe they can get a business to grow.... such as the Sheik ......buy cheaply , invest and reap the rewards. ushited are at the top of the earnings and would cost a lot to buy (not least cos my mates the GLAZERS couldn't afford to sell cheaply) the risk being that you pay a lot and can't get a lot back in earnings

Ho Ho Ho...as the fat geezer with the white beard would say

But they have a HUGE turnover, and any serious investor would have their head turned by the numbers that go through their books. Whether we lot like it or not, in global foot ball terms, they are the biggest fish, with huge global appeal.

We ought to hope that the current owners stick around, better the devil you know, and all that...

Liverpool were in deep shit towards the end of Hicks and Gillett at almost the same place we were in with Thaskin when Wardle had bo bail us out with wages for a while.

I doubt ragville will suffer the same fate although who knows what secrets Delaware hold.
