The Rags potential demise ... and costs.

Being more realistic, if they were to slump and the Glazers wanted to pull out completely, if the price was right the queue of potential investors / sovereign wealth funds who wanted to invest in such a cash cow would be round the corner.

Not really......People invest because they believe they can get a business to grow.... such as the Sheik ......buy cheaply , invest and reap the rewards. ushited are at the top of the earnings and would cost a lot to buy (not least cos my mates the GLAZERS couldn't afford to sell cheaply) the risk being that you pay a lot and can't get a lot back in earnings

Ho Ho Ho...as the fat geezer with the white beard would say

Respectfully disagree - go to Hong Kong or Singapore and every other shirt is rags, Arse, or Red Dippers. (And we're popping up quite a lot lately I am happy to say!)

Point is, those Arse and kop fans haven't really been rolling in silverware for a while and yet they are still there. That's cash flow. Value to sponsors. It would take a LONG time for a club with that many worldwide fans to not be a big potential draw/cash cow for a hypothetical new ownership.

But of course it would obviously be damned nice to see the vermin have a dipper-like period of many years in the wilderness. Sure as hell would not HELP them as a club.

The longer the Glazers stay there the better. They use the rags as a cash machine and I'd rather them taking money out of them than it being spent on players. Woodward and co are hawking the rags to all and sundry to increase revenues (and very successfully it seems) but without serious investment on the pitch, then hopefully a slow decline will ensue. More power to Malc and his family, I say because there are probably a queue of billionaires ready to take the twats over.

As much as I'd love them to have to sell up anything of value and groundshare with Sale Sharks & Salford Reds, it isn't going to happen now.

There was a time when they could have gone under but either by luck, clever management or a combination, the Glazers should now be in a position to settle any of their personal debt from the takeover and getting to the point where the rags could be debt free in the next 3-4 years.

It would be interesting to see how loyal all their foreign fans (the main source of their obscene revenue) would prove to be if they missed out on CL for a year or two. They'd certainly find themselves struggling to carry on finding ever increasing sponsorship deals. Unfortunately they have grown too powerful to ever be properly destroyed, just as Liverpool are. Their prescence is far too set in the media and corporate worlds to ever diminish

You write these bastard off at your peril, I want to see how they fair under Moyes for a full season. In terms of finances they have built this incredible wealth over a long long period of time taking advantage of everything commercial the commercial side does not seem to be slowing down so for me I still believe they will get richer and richer with or without CL. It will only turn once the plastics stop "supporting" them. Fanbase shrinks, merchandising and advertising shrinks etc etc. In footballing terms I hope if we have our foot on their throat we keep it there and twist it every now and again. I am quiet happy to watch them bastards squirm and suffer as we have done in the past.

There will be some wealthy people out there like our owners (Qatar) who would love nothing more than watch the rags have a few barren years.....then someone will be able to pick up the club at a very deflated rate (Qatar)....

so if it was to happen it could be the worst thing that could happen from our point of view....

we need the Glaizers there forever really and for that to happen they need to make money but not enough to invest crazily....

the rags are to strong a commercial enterprise to just disappear from the top level of the game there will always someone prepared to take a chance and purchase them no matter how they are doing because the one thing the rags have always been in recent times is a cash cow something that you couldn't say about both Leeds and Portsmouth

What will likely happen is that they'll become more like Real Madrid and throw money at it.

When Ferguson was in charge, they didn't need to spend much money because he could get a team of mostly average players challenging for the title.

Funny thing is that Moyes isn't even doing that bad a job considering the players he's got, I'd say their results are about par for the course. Compare their team player for player to the best teams in Europe and you would see that they aren't even close. It blows my mind that they finished on 89 points two years running, and could have finished higher last year if they didn't just give up after they won the league.

Any other manager will be finishing with between 65 and 75 points with that set of players. So if they want to be anywhere near the title they will have to throw money at it. They would need two central midfielders, two wide players, and a left back at minimum.

Was talking to a rag about their potential demise( in the only way you can actually talk to one). I was trying to recall a post I'm fairly sure you made, about the shares from the IPO being returned at a reduced rate if they fail to make the Champs league for 2 consecutive years.

Any chance you could explain that to me.

Cheers.

Malcolm's other team, Tampa Bay had one of the worst records in the whole league this year - W3 L9

We can only dream...
