The rebuild has started. Who goes?

To go:

Akanji
- been a great buy for the money but far too slow now.

Gundo - love him and what he’s done for the club. Was happy he came back, but now it’s been a mistake. It’s a shame he didn’t just leave it as going out with the treble win.

KDB - The guy is one of the best I’ve ever seen. So many great game winning performances. His legs have gone, he’s too slow now and doesn’t have the impact he used to. Hopefully him going will force us to sign Wirtz or Muisiala. Hopefully it’s Wirtz

Nunes - tries hard, getting some (in my opinion) undeserved criticism as he’s playing out of position, but he’s simply not up to this level.

Grealish - we seem to have taken the X factor he had out of his game. He’s not the player he was at Villa and no point staying as Pep doesn’t play him.

Bernardo - wanted to go for last few seasons.
Fantastic player and servant. Hopefully he can get some of his magic back if he moves away.

If they want to go let them:

Ederson
- I want him to stay but not been the same this season, if he wants to go let him go.

Doku - if he did approach Barcelona let him go. Could become a very good player if he gets an end product but we’re over covered in that area anyway, especially with the Argentine lad coming in.

If we sell all them hopefully we can afford a fullback or 2.

Out pretty clear:

One of Eddie/Ortega.
Gundo.
Walker.
Stones.
KDB.
Grealish.
McAtee.

Maybe even one of Akanji/Ake.

In: who the duck knows

1stly,

It's 1+1 for Pep if I am not mistaken.
If he's going as he is at the moment this time next season, I think he'll bin it off. Pep is Peps biggest critic.

2ndly, if he does the two, that's still only two, and the football season doesn't end anymore. He won't wake up on the last day of the season and tell the club he's off. He'll give them notice.

So that's next season and then probably he's more than likely off and will let the club know in Nov I imagine.

I can't see a world where City pander to Peps team wishes without increasing resistance and caution as his end nears.

We've been saying the summer window was shit because he was likely leaving this year so it's not a flawed logic.

I think this sets the play for what happens in this summer window.

I appreciate YMMV.
It's not 1+1, not that it matters if he wants to leave he will leave.

Can you tell me which horse will win the grand national

Who would I keep?

Keepers
Love to keep Ederson but depends on him. He can be flaky but his distribution is key.
I think Ortega is a decent backup but I'm not sure he's a suitable first choice.

Defenders
Gvardiol,
Dias,
Maybe two of:
Akanji (but need to get this propensity for bad mistakes out of him if we can)
Ake (but used a bit more sparingly so hopefully he can stay fit)
Stones (as above)
The two new guys.

Midfield
Rodri
Kovacic (decent cover and useful in a more forward role)
Gonzalez
Bobb
Savinho
Doku (but want to see some progress next season)
Foden (although I'm 50/50 on him currently. Needs to buck up and has he still got the desire?
Nunez (Another I'm 50/50 on. I've seen bits that suggest there's a talent there so maybe worth another season playing in his proper position)

Forwards
Haaland
Marmoush

I'd also keep all the fringe younger players such as O'Reilly, McAtee, Simpson-Pusey

That means the following should be out:
  • At least one of Ake, Stones & Akanji, maybe two.
  • Walker
  • Lewis (going backwards fast imo)
  • Phillips
  • De Bruyne
  • Gundogan
  • Bernardo
  • Wilson-Esbrand (loan?)
  • Grealish
Absolutely spot on. KDB is a really difficult one! Heart says keep him and use him sparingly but realistically I suspect he will end up in Saudi

Players to be moved on/loaned:

Gundo - club legend, but he is done at this level on a regular basis. Offer him a coaching role instead.

Lewis - loan him if we still want to give him a chance to impress, but he is worse at 20 than he was at 17, and his weaknesses can't be improved upon, so he can't be here making us vulnerable.

Grealish- I like Jack, and I wish he was given a more central role like he did against Forrest, but for whatever reason Pep just doesn't trust him, so he needs to be moved on

O'Reilly- loan him, he is not playing here and won't be anytime soon in light of our transfer activity. If he impresses, bring him back

Carson - We probably need a new 3rd option keeper, Scott is likely to retire now, surely

2 out of 3 from Stones, Akanji, Ake - Stonesy and Nathan are club legends, but we simply can't afford to have them constantly on the sidelines. I included Manu Akanji here because he is having an awful season, so that level is simply not good enough. I would be happy to have him on the bench as a backup, though, due to his experience.

JSP - He is not going to play after we signed Khusanov, Reis, and are about to sign another CB and/or RB in the summer. He needs a loan.

I was with you until you said to get rid of Carson.
He’s like the club mascot, you can’t get rid of him.

For what it's worth, I don't see a clear out in the summer.
Some players may move on/retire but I don't see the club pushing hard to offload.

I think more likely the club will look for more Nico/Omar type signings to develop and transition across both pep and the old guard.

Nobody is going to pay the wages the old team are on so they will likely wither away on a free.

Gundo might go into the backrooms.

I think wholesale change is fantasy.

They’d be the players I’d be looking to move on as well, although I think that Lewis could actually turn it around after a spell out of the firing line.

The problem here though is a lack of home grown players. If both Stones and Ake were to leave, plus Grealish alongside what appear to be inevitable departures for both Walker and Phillips, then I think I’m right in saying that we’d only have Foden, Bobb, McAtee, JWE and Carson left on the home grown list next season in terms of PL rules.

Two or three of those will likely leave as well, so we’d have to target a lot of home grown players in the rebuild if we want to have a deeper squad.

I think we’ll try to sign Guehi at Palace in the summer, maybe Eze as well, but other than that I’d struggle to see who we’d target.

Lewis won’t be going. Pep loves him!

KDB will go I think:
Grealish should go.
One of Ake/Stones but not sure who would buy them.
Gundogan but isn’t he 2 year contract - again not sure where he will go.

I'm still on the fence about this, in my head, but I really think they should at least gauge the market for Foden. For a "superstar", he has had a history of being hot/cold, and I just don't know if I see him: A. playing central midfielder for an extended time, or B. Carrying the squad similar to KdB or Rodri. I'm also not sure our play style caters to his strength, which is speed and ball control at full tilt. If a team wants to spend a ton of money to get him on the continent, it might be worth it to get a lot of positive funding to reboot the roster faster.

I also think Silva may have had his best days here. Haven't seen a lot about him on this thread (I haven't read every snippet though) but I wouldn't cry if he moved to Portugal or Barca or wherever.

Maybe the worst post in Bluemoon history and that takes some doing.
