The rebuild has started. Who goes?

Walker and Phillips are done but other players I assume will go for their own reasons or ours:

Eddie, McAtee, Grealish, Gundo

Potential additional departures; De Bruyne (think we will offer him a year but he may get better elsewhere), Nunes (think we will keep him for his versatility but he won't see the pitch much), Ortega (dangle carrot of number 1 spot but he will be second choice).

Rest will be as is. The likes of Stones, Ake, Akanji, Bernardo are top top players and a refreshed squad enables them the opportunities to rest and show it.

4 spots free for the summer (depending on impact of Echeverri/Reis who may be loaned).

So new GK and I would expect a CM and an AM who could play wide to push Doku/Savinho/Bobb and Foden.

Wirtz and Musiala would do...but that would be some going!

Walker, Stones, Grealish, Phillip's, Kev?, Gundo, Bernardo. A surprise could be Phil as well. Could be a very busy summer!

Walker - Age
Kovacic - Not good enough
Nunes - Not good enough
Phillips - Not good enough
Mcatee - Game time
Gundogan - Age, although a player/coach role would work.
One of the defenders that can't stay fit might go if we get a good offer.
Grealish - Out of favour/form, 5 months to prove himself to Pep.
Doku - A good offer could see us sell.

3 or 4 players in. 1 of them has to be Wirtz or Musiala, if we get both we win the lot next year.

Disagree on any shout that KDB or Bernardo leave, with a fresh squad around them they still have a lot to give. Bernardo is trying to play 3 midfield roles at once at the moment, almost impossible.

I can't believe how many on here think Bernardo should leave. I still think he is a great player and will be better once Rodri is back.
People always need an easy answer. You are correct.

You don’t scrap your car when the battery is dead. Recharge the battery…car runs fine.

Rodri is the battery by the way!

If the 6 out are right, and I think they might be,by count we could only bring 3 in and one would need to be homegrown to replace Grealish and one a keeper for Ederson.

I completely disagree with this, I think Gvardiol is a great defender, but he’s playing LB which isn’t his position.

If Gvardiol was played regularly as a centre back I think he could end up the best central defender in the world.
But shouldn't a great defender occasionally be aware of what's going on behind him? Too often he drifts aimlessly out of position, leaving an attacker in 20yds of space.
Going forward, on the other hand, he's really dangerous, and looks at home.
Opinions, opinions...

we have got everything worth getting out from a long line of players imo.
obvious ones KDB, Gundo, Walker and flop Phillips.

not sure of timing of upcoming summer or summer 2026, but almost 100% sure none of these will be here at the start of season 26-27:
Ederson, Carson, Stones, Akanji, Bernardo, Grealish, Kovacic, Nunes, some will already will be shown the door this summer. mostly they were great soldiers, thank you for their service. Ederson, Stones, Bernardo deserve nothing but a big thank you all were crucial parts of the Pep-era. but we cannot wait and wait and wait until they get worse and worse and worse. Carson will get a statue for sure.

few more can be mentioned too: Ortega if he is not happy with number two role even after Ederson is gone, Doku if he doesnt improve quick, Ake as he is getting on with age in next two years. these three have the question marks tho more like for summer 2026.

this will require us go big in summer 2025 on transfers and then some more later on.

certainly Marmoush, Khusanov, Reis, Nico G will be just the start of the rebuild. I expect 250-300m spent in the summer. we really need one of Wirtz or Musiala and thats gonna take a huge fee, PL record fee for sure. and then still we need fullbacks, further CMs, GK etc.

Ederson - Wouldn't mind him staying but he'll go
Ortega - He'll never be Number 1, especially after that disaster class at the weekend. Gone
Carson - Could use one of the youth keepers in his position as an English squad player. Put him as Goalkeeping coach
Walker - Definitely gone
Dias - Keep him for another ten years
Stones - Fitness issues, would upset me because I love him but he'll go
Akanji - Said it since we got him. I know he won the treble but he can't take being under pressure. Should go
Ake - Been unreal at times but gets injured easy. Could go but would love him to stay
Gvardiol - Should stay, love the geezer
Khusanov - Fine
Reis - Fine
Wilson-Esbrand - Will get sold I reckon
Simpson-Pusey - Think he will be sold too
Rodri - Hope he never leaves, even when his legs go too
Gonzalez - Fine
Lewis - Just don't think he's cut out for it unfortunately. Should go and prove himself in Bundesliga or something
Nunes - Would drive him to the airport
Kovacic - Think he'll end up at Roma or something
De Bruyne - If he doesn't go Arabia or MLS, we should keep him to help the new ones settle
Bernardo - Similar to De Bruyne. Keep him for one more season to let the new ones settle
Gundogan - Bring him back as a coach or manager one day. His brains are out doing his legs and it kills me seeing it
Foden - Keep him forever
Grealish - Makes me sad coz I love him but I reckon he'll go back to Villa or somewhere like Newcastle
Doku - Got my doubts but I do think he'll come good
Savinho - Flashes of brilliance and another season under Pep, he'll be one of our best
Bobb - Think he'll be unreal
McAtee - If he gets a couple of starts in the league, we'll see how good he is. Keep
Haaland - Hope he does 10 years but sometimes does worry me with his lazy press
Marmoush - Looks like a star in the making

Could see 14 players going. Could be a massive summer.

We really are in a mess! We have let it turn that sour, that I can't work out where to start. Yes, we have made some interesting purchases with potential, but seriously ask yourself this.....are any if them likely to be a new:-

David Silva, Yaya Toure, KDB, Aguero, Kompany, Diaz, Zabaleta, Rodri, Walker, Bernado, Mahrez, Sane or Gundogan?

Make no mistake, that is the quality, reliability and longevity we need. We do not need another Grealish, Phillips or Doku, who have ranged from poor to disastrous. Conversely we seriously need to ask some wider questions as to why the CFG Academy operation at Manchester cannot produce a single genuine fullback?

And then there is Pep! If I'm honest, the whole style of play has gone dull, and I haven't seen anything since the Villa 3-2 league winning game that has got me off my feet. Even the treble season was uninspiring in the style of football. For me, Pep is like my wife, in that perhaps as time has passed, the sex has become dull. It doesn't matter what new clothes (new players) she wears, it's still my rather dull wife underneath. However counter that with the argument that a new wife, even with my old wife's clothes (our existing players) might just get me a little more aroused and may even have a few new tricks to try!

That in a nut shell is it.

The HG factor makes it very tricky for the club and possibly leads to Grealish staying considering his resale value is so low now. I just can't see him getting in the side though. He's had the perfect situation to step up and show his worth to Pep but has also had little niggles and a lack of form and that's going to go against him.

That's why, in spite of his ability, Nunes will have credit in the bank. He's not a RB but is doing his best in that position. And he's been available all season and willing to play wherever he's selected.

That's nuts that's what it is, lose half a dozen in summer bring in maybe 3 or 4. Done, mess fixed.

Exactly. And we'll have a great blend of youth and experience to deliver another successful period. De Bruyne goes the following summer and another spot is available and any other minor changes are also made where contracts aren't renewed or players want to leave.
