Who ever said Rafa is underrated in this country has it spot on. He was my number one choice for manager with us and the fact he was never talked about as being a serious contender speaks volumes about how he's perceived here. Top class manager.

Rafa's really re-establishing his reputation (and I'm not sure why it ever took a hit in the first place).

It'll be interesting to see them play Arsenal.

He took on a certain untouchable alcoholic Scot and that was unacceptable to the media

Arsenal and Napoli to get out of the CL group. All set up for a Dortmund letdown after last year's heroics.

I certainly said that, though others may have as well. He's absurdly underrated in this country and while this is not always the best yardstick, the high regard in which he's held by Liverpool fans is an indication of his true abilities and achievements, IMO.

It is a bit odd, when you think about it, that he wasn't considered for City. I know he's seen as headstrong / a control freak, but I reckon he would work well with a DOF he respected (and I'm sure he would respect Txiki). He did good work with the Liverpool youth system too so that would fit in with what he's attempting to achieve.

He's really a top manager. Maybe they felt the style of football he goes in for wasn't quite what they wanted and preferred Pellegrini's approach? Or maybe they thought Pellers had the right personality and style for the squad, post-Mancini? I like Pellers, too, so am not particularly upset or anything - it's just a bit odd Rafa never appeared to get a look in.

Completely agree about Rafa ... well underrated ... but he has his quirks.

Him and Napoli are a formidable partnership. Personally I think they'll win the Serie A this season. In terms of the City job ... he may well be a top manager but he also polarises people. I'm sure even Txiki and Ferran would've known that had they replaced Mancini with him the fallout would've been of Chelsea proportions regardless of how well we did.

I think City may well have turned to Rafa if they had not got Pellegrini, who looked a better fit for us and will hopefully prove that.

I said on another thread that when the time comes to replace Pellegrini, Rafa could well feature high on the short list if he does really well at Napoli. However, if they continue to do well, I'd expect Pep, Klopp and De Boer to head the short list if they are seen as potentially available.

All very speculative at this moment and a tad premature; although I do think City should always be planning for the possibility that the current incumbent at the Etihad could leave at short notice.

Quality team, quality fans and a quality manager regardless of what a chav says.
Agreed.

Benitez is a class manager. Chelsea should have kept hold of him, they didn't know a good thing when they had it.

As for Napoli, the passion their fans show is almost unrivaled in Europe. They're wild but a good wild. When they scored at our place it was like an avalanche in the away end. and the team they've built now is REALLY good. If Benitez can get to two CL finals - winning one - with that Liverpool team he had, he can win it with Napoli!
