The Rise of the Far Right

I hate Trump because he's Trump and acts in Trumpy ways.

I think at last we understand one another, Frodo Baggins.

I like trump for being something rather than the anonymity that was Obama. The US society needs a strong figure head and President.

I get that the grey sensibles in this world are offended by trump and his brash manner, but I think decades of highly polished "politicians" rather than statesmen and philanthropist has driven the voting public to him.

I certainly would have picked him over the pure politician Clinton. I didn't understand how Sanders didn't get voted in but then again I'm not in the US.

People are fed up with slick and polish. Good for them, sometimes you need a rough edge....

So you see more and more air time given to Communists, framed by a hammer and sickle, urging the toiling masses to throw off the chains of their oppressor!

You need to go easy on the Stolly pal.

"So what you are saying is....."

Please don't misquote me for internet points.

I don’t accept that Trump is a strong leader. He’s a gob shite that might give impression of being strong but that’s about it

Au contraire....
Oddly enough, it is the extreme left which I see as getting more and more air time. ..... They do this whilsy proudly standing behand a hammer and Sickle

The flag of the Soviet Union...

The hammer is a metaphor for industrial labourers, the sickle for the farming peasantry. Both of these symbols, when used together in a public display, represent the worker-peasant alliance and its unified resistance to internal insurrection and foreign intervention in the affairs of the communist state.

And the swastika is a metaphor for good luck. So that's alright then, eh?

Indeed we do:

The Shadow Chancellor speaking in front of the hammer and sickle and Assad's Syrian flag.

He's probably stood in front of a sea of Socialist Worker Party banners as well, anyone who's been on a left wing demo in the last 40 years has...

Par for the course mate, I doubt you seriously think he's a member of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party (oh look socialist!) or a member of the British Communist Party, while simultaneously a member of the Socialist Workers Party, or maybe he's a member of the National Socialist Party (oh look socialist again!) ....Or maybe you do.

He was quite literally stood in front of the hammer and sickle and Assad's Syrian flag. It's no different to May standing in front of a swastika and delivering a speech. Stop excusing it.

I'm not sure he's doing that.

Just pointing out that standing in front of a thing doesn't imply supporting that thing. Then explaining the history behind it.

So again, if Philip Hammond delivered a speech on a platform bedecked with a swastika, no one would mind at all?

I see more and more deluded idiots clutching the flag of a totalitarian and evil regime, thinking that it is somehow a symbol of honour and unity and representative of the left wing ideology.

There is no difference between the Sickle and hammer or the swastika save that perhaps the reds were better and more willing to kill their own than the Nazis.

I don't see much outrage being shown to the display of the sickle and hammer in the West. Try flying a swastika at your next council meeting and see what happens lol.

It's very different, and if you don't know it then you are either are very stupid, which I doubt, or you don't want to know it, which is probably the case.

All this shared a platform with, spoke at the same conference as, stood in front of etc, etc is utter bullshit

Have you ever been to any left wing demo? Have you seen the multitude of various interests and tiny political groups there? All of them jostling to get in the picture?

In order for your post to have any validity whatsoever one has to accept that John McDonnell is both a Communist and a supporter of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party which is patently absurd.

You detect a Communist resurgence in this country? Blimey! Very astute, might I interest you in a timeshare in Chernobyl?

People would lose their minds. They shouldn't, but they would.

@FogBlueInSanFran summed up the reasons for this extremely well.

But you're correct that it's a double standard.

Or to put it another way, if you or I were asked to deliver a speech and saw either of those symbols behind the stage, would you continue with that speech? I wouldn't.
