All good. I'll also be voting green most likely (hard to know for sure in 4 years). But like you I have some policy areas I don't agree with so I was interested to hear your thoughts.

So what are you unhappy about? People moving in who you don't know (the norm) or house prices potentially going down?

In my experience there's someone undesirable (usually someone who's turned being antisocial into an art form) on pretty much every street.

The problem here is you can't stop people buying houses. What the then private landlord does with the house is up to them. What is its not potentially illegal migrants but happens to be students maybe. Assume they will be ok with that?

You and the Tommy lots speak as if millions are coming over and being housed when the number is far less.

Maybe if people understood the Brexit better then we wouldn't be in this position ref illegal migration - which you know has been going on for decades.

This government is no weaker than the last one and will be no weaker than the next one.
 
Here in Crook, Co Durham we have had an HMO have it's windows put out and doors kicked in. It was empty at the time. This is because it was rumoured to be going to be used to house immigrants. It came out it was going to house University students.
However we never had these problems when the house was being used to house pedophiles and drugs dealers

The owner should leave it derelict. That should help house prices in the street.

I remember the NF back in the 70's and 80's. Well they have their voices back. Unfortunately todays education is done via Tik Tok, X, Facebook Instagram etc.

Be funny if they do stop and remove the Albanian and Pakistani/Afghan immigrants - peoples supply of drugs will quickly disappear - god knows what Tommys mob will do without Charlie and others without their Heroin fixes.

You're right in all the points you make.

immigrant are being scapegoated by the far right for all the social ills you outlined, social ills that they did not create and suffer from as much as anyone else, perhaps more so.

And newly arrived immigrants also suffer from social isolation in a way that those who've been here awhile do not and that is one, if not the main driver, for immigrants to form their own communities and for new arrivals to seek existing ones out.

You are also right when you point out that our economy needs immigrants to grow, in particularly it needs them in the vital services we depend on like the NHS, all the doctors in my local surgery are Asian and a number have arrived in the last five years or so according to my local GP.

I was thinking about what you wrote here....

It is a testimony to how fucked up some folk are in here that they baulk at the idea of the very existence of a predominant British culture, but if you're outside it you know it's very real.

When I got back from living in Nigeria and travelling Africa and lived in London, I had a Malawian mate who had fled Hastings Banda's regime there, he was your actual asylum seeker and when I met him he was a British citizen and Town Twinning Officer at Lambeth Town Hall. I was working for a Fair Trade Company importing stuff from cooperatives and farmers organisations, mostly in Africa and Central America. Anyways, it was the 1980s, we were both in our 20's, the bar at Lambeth Town Hall was dirt cheap, we were friends, our politics were similar and I'd been to Lilongwe his home town and all over the shop, and one night at the bar we were talking about life in Africa in general and in particular what young men get up to there, nothing more than what every person who walks the streets of Lagos or Accra knows to be the bleeding obvious, we were pissed of course, we told it as we saw it. Anyways, we were overheard by a couple of Afro-Carribean fellas born and bred in Brixton and they hit the roof, not because of what we'd said and certainly not what Hugh my Malawian mate had said and not even the content of what I'd said, but because I, a white fella had said it!

Later on it bit me in the bum, coz one of those fellas was on a panel that turned me down for a job there.

Life eh?

Fascism and dictatorship isn't prevented by a constitution or laws, it's prevented by a consensus that they should be upheld in spirit as well as letter. See Russia for what happens if they're not.

These barriers to a far right takeover are now falling in a cascading and really alarming manner.

Our democracy is not holding up robustly at all.

Has anyone suggested that there isn't a predominantly British culture in Britain?

Except for those that believe the British way of life has been stolen by those nasty foreigners of course.

It's almost like there's a race on in some circles to be the most outrageous/least "woke".

It worries me because while they havent been proven guilty of anything yet, they still have pretty obnoxious views, and a wide audience particularly amongst young males.

The worry is how much wealth the right wing and tech people have to influence views and they can pay extortionate to right wing grifters to continually push their agenda and overthrow left leaning figures.

I came across this, I've no idea what her politics is and I disagree with some of what she said, but it was thought provoking.....
