They signal that you belong.

It is a testimony to how fucked up some folk are in here that they baulk at the idea of the very existence of a predominant British culture, but if you're outside it you know it's very real.

The only issue I have here is that us Indians are fine, a good proportion of us like a drink, its not prohibited there are certain Hindu groups that won't. My dad was not a drinker. But something as minor as Alcohol should not be the one that drives acceptance yet - as per my experience in the pub a few weeks ago seemingly was. So narrow minded.

Which brings me back to I was accepted and people said "you're like us" but say another brown indian who wasn't behaving like "Us" - they would be just see as a "p@ki, Red Dot, Gandhi, bud bud ding ding etc etc" just some of the abuse we got back in the 70's & 80's. just showed that deep down the feelings of racism were there but just a different lens if I had a drink or got involved in their shenanigans which also involved taking the piss out of some of the asian ways of life.

I go back to just let everyone live the way they want. I saw something this morning about Obama talking about conflict and tribes etc how one group has to be above another rather than just seeing ourselves as equal. - worth watching -

I've brought both my kids up to be proud of being Indian / Hindu - but also have respect for other religions and people. Both mine have mixed and diverse groups of friends.

Don't think of it as astraight line it's a circle and far left and right is the join. Bit like every one thinks Russia and USA are far apart but in reality are almost touching
