The uk will have been involved in more shit over the years. Are you fucking off from here as well
The thing is, the population will stop voting for a party where they have been involved with shit like this, they will take to the streets and protest them… our fanbase haven’t been doing that though, nether did Chelsea’s… they even sang Abramovich’s name
after he’d been forced hand over Chelsea as an asset following UK sanctions of anyone related to Putin’s regime following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which I thought was crass (Chelsea’s singing of his name, that is).
UAE have been involved in Sudan since 2023 but have been involved in Yemen since
2015. That’s a decade where we’ve ignored UAE’s links to war crimes with the DPM/VP being CFG’s majority shareholder. And I knew it was going on, so I too spent years sweeping it under the carpet.
But it’s been about two years that I’ve been feeling a bit uneasy about Mansour and the UAE. Firstly, it came into my head when I looked at the protestors of the UK govt and Israel over Israel:Gaza and wondered how many City fans were amongst them and why they’d protest our govt but not City/Mansour when our club have inextricable links to UAE.
I would read news about Russia:Ukraine and Israel:Gaza, it also got me reading about UAE in Sudan and Yemen. I brought it up in this forum once not long ago and didn’t get much response. Over the years the only poster on this website I’ve ever seen say he doesn’t like Mansour being our owner due to all this, is
@Rascal who said it a few years back, and
@SWP's back who said the UAE involvement in Yemen was appalling when I conversed in posts with him about UAE and Qatar relations ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
Now, I’m not saying we should protest about this (as I’ve said, I’m not much of a protestor myself), and I’m not sure about what stance we should take as a fanbase yet. But I think as a fanbase we should own this a bit more and be prepared to get uncomfortable by gaining more knowledge on the situation and about Mansour’s involvement in it, not just in Sudan but in Yemen n’all.
That would be my starting point here (I was asked about that in an earlier post a few pages back); let’s get more knowledgable about it as a fanbase and see what we think then. Not just saying ‘oh well, never mind, it goes on at other clubs too and in other sports, and with the government, so fuck it, carry on’ nor jump to demanding Mansour sells the club or the govt demands he does… but let’s just all own it a bit more and see how it makes us feel.
