Why does Russia want Crimea so much ? Looking at my map, Russia is fkin HUGE!!! Crimea just looks a smallish kind of Island at the bottom of Ukraine ...

I would suspect that Naval interests may give you a clue.

Or they may want to look after the interests of their own compatriots. Don't most of them consider themselves Russian & speak Russian?

That has nothing to do with it thats just a ready made excuse to invade. Putin would kill every single Russian in Ukraine if it further served his purpose.

Also worry for future of parts of europe - don't want another cold war situation... very interesting times ahead
