The Scottish Politics thread

Why should the respect stop there? She's the best leader of a political party in the UK, I'll concede at the moment it's a pretty low bar.

A lot of the English public think differently to me on a lot of things, Brexit, Boris Johnson, reading of publications like the Sun and Mail, supporting teams like United and Liverpool etc. I'd argue recent events in the English political climate is evidence that the English public are easily led, although it's not unique to England.

I'm married to a Scot, been there many times and never felt any hatred, never felt unwelcome nor uncomfortable.

You thinking there is something more sinister to it is possibly more evidence of being easily influenced?
I don’t think the Scots are any more or less easily influenced than the English, to think one is more or less is arrogant of your own views being superior.

The Scots are just centre left and the English, centre right… as a majority of course, not all. It’s an opinion and as long as you’re not letting it boil over into bigotry, then there’s no right or wrong there.

There’s been a ton of reasons not to respect sturgeon over the last 12-18 months but again, I’m English and don’t even vote in Scotland so it’s not my business.

Hopefully soon whoever gets voted into Westminster will be none of Scotland’s business.

I don't think there is anything arrogant in what I stated nor a belief that my views are superior.

I provided reasons for forming my opinion that the majority of the English public are easily influenced, I even stated it was not unique to England.

Does your opinion that there is something more sinister in Scottish feelings towards the English not boil over into bigotry? Is that opinion not arrogant or superior?

I'm genuinely interested in what Sturgeon has done over the last 12-18 months that would cause you to have tons of reasons to not respect her. She's not perfect and makes mistakes, she's certainly no Jacinda Ardern but when compared to her British contemporaries she is head and shoulders above most of them, certainly the current PM.

As Sturgeon's political influence heavily impacts the UK surely it is yours and every other Brits business what she does...Also if you really don't care and think it is none of your business, why post in thread on Scottish politics?

It'll be a sad day when Scotland decides to go it alone.

Believing there is bigotry is not bigotry in itself, feeling like there is anti English sentiment in Scotland isn’t bigotry towards the Scots. Are those who accuse people in of racism bigots too?

Again it’s none of my business, you just need to check why she was in the news for a large section of last year. If Jacinda Ardern is your benchmark then we are worlds apart from my friend and are wasting our time trying to convince each other.

I’ve posted in the Scottish thread because I want Scottish independence and I want Scotland to be none of my business.I think it’s the right thing to do now, the animosity is too great to continue in our current model of the UK.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect yours, we are wasting our time trying here trying to convince each other.

I'd argue that believing the Scottish to be anti-English with no proof other than a feeling is bigotry.

Bigotry: obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

You made the statement that there are tons of reasons for you to not respect Sturgeon I'm asking you what they are. Telling me to google her is just passing the buck, state these reasons and show conviction in your belief.

What's your beef with Jacinda Ardern? She's surely near the top of the list when ranking the quality of current world leaders.

We all have rights to our opinions, but we should expect them to be challenged. I'm not here to convince you, I want to understand how you've come to form such opinions.

I think Googling Sturgeon will simply bring up politically biased tripe from Murdoch's Rags. Telegraph, Express etc. that are papers consumed by Brexit loving gammon who are happy to be told the Brown man is taking their jobs and that Bojo will fix the nation. Murdoch is the second largest Tory donor (or was the last I checked) and has literally just, only just, instructed his Australian papers to stop printing Climate denial propaganda. This is the man influencing so many easily lead minds.

That's part of her problem. Even the state funded BBC is constantly criticised up here for their open bias. Operated by London Etonians and the like...there are very few openly debatable platforms for here and most of the SNP momentum is built over social media. Surgeon is clearly a very talented politician and vastly superior to the shitty choices down south. I honestly can't think of a political leader that comes close down here, but the SNP have some very talented future leaders in their ranks.

As for Jacinda Ardern, she runs a very, very different country with a smaller population density and doesn't have one hand tied behind her back.

If you state that you have "tons of reasons" to hate someone then you should have the conviction to list some of them and ideally provide a cogent argument to back it up, who knows people may even agree.

It reminded me of a conversation I once had with someone about Raheem Sterling. They guy stated he couldn't stand him, when I asked him why he said "I just do" (I think we know why).

It was the comment about Ardern that hints heavily towards where this poster sits on the political spectrum. That and the comments about believing the Scottish to be bigots which in itself was bigotry.

It wont be sad for us. Even now, in the middle of all this shit , the Torirs sre ahead in the polls. We havent voted for the bastards as a majority for 70 years. Its clear no matter how bad the Tories are, England votes them in, which is their right , it should equally be ours to ssy we never vote them in, so we dont want to be run by them. I will be ecstatic to get fucking shot of them forever. They will still be here and talking shite , but they will never hold power. If thats not something worth fighting for, I dont know what is.. I am still not convinced we will achieve it, but every generation bar the over 65's voted in a majority Yes. Every day Brexit turns into what we knew it would, helps us. Will it he enough? I honestly Don't know.

Oh, and we dont hate the English. That's Daily Mail shit to get you all angry and hating us. Dont be a mug.

Also, imagine for a minute if Boris was our leader? You would be having a field day and the SNP would not be in power with a useless lying **** like him.. You still vote him in. If anybody wants to be fucked off with anybody, start at the 40% of idiots who say they will vote Tory to return them to power. I would hate them.a lot more. Anyway, that's me for another few months in here. Have a wonderful Christmas..

What are you talking about? Who mentioned hate? Are you referring to a previous post?

I think individuals need to take responsibility for their actions politically. The piece Owen Jones done at the Tory conference highlights how disconnected these people are. Being told that hard work will get you places by people that have barely ever worked in their life. Brexiteers have fucked the economy and put the final nail in the unions coffin. They should admit they acted without due diligence, believing xenophobia bullshit media and allowing a wee bit of casual imperialistic arrogance (make them feel the empire rules the waves) misted their views. These fucking gammon remind me of those idiot Americans who think the US in the centre of the universe, guns are a human right and that immigrants are a parasitic inconvenience. The irony being that, the thing that makes us better than many countries, is being systematically ripped apart by greedy, horrificly self-serving Tory vermin that they support.

We need to get the fuck out. The Tory union has become a necrotic limb.

Yes I was referring to the post I was replying to in my quote, in your post.
