Thought this might be a good place to post for advice

I was burgled this morning and my house cat has gone missing. I found him hiding outside but he ran off over the fence into bushes, clearly spooked by what went on.

I’ve heard him crying tonight, but can’t find him at all. All the neighbours have helped too. It’s his usual hungry cry. Will he just eventually come back once he’s ready? I’ve put clothing he likes, food, litter tray etc outside.

I’m heartbroken at the moment, and just feel helpless. I need some hope :(

Might be a long shot, but do you or anyone have a bright torch you can shine around looking for his eyes reflecting? (if you haven't tried already)

How to lure an indoor cat back home?

  • Use Familiar Sounds: Cats respond well to familiar noises. Try shaking a container of treats or using a favorite toy that makes noise.
  • Set Up a Safe Space: Leave the door or a window open so your cat can easily come back inside.
  • Leave Food Outside: Place some of their favorite food or treats near your home.
  • Use a Flash

  • Some suggestions off the internet all though if you can hear him crying he will come home
  • Do indoor cats come back if they get out?

They almost always come home. Often prefer to return the same way they left. Cats have an incredible sense of direction so as long as he doesn't get into trouble he'll come home. Go out every couple hours to call him. If you have set feeding time he'll likely show up around then———————

  • There you are stop worrying they almost always come back

If you can sit outside with some of his favourite treats (I know it's cold) he'll eventually come up to you if as you say you can hear him crying.

He should come back if he’s hungry. But keep on calling his name where you can hear him. Try and get as close to him as possibly can without scaring him, if you can see him, stay crouch down, don’t stand up, don’t get too close to him, keep on calling his name, try shaking pack of dreamies (my cats love dreamies) or a box of cat biscuits, if he is used to getting cat biscuits for food or as a treat, let him come over to you slowly, put some biscuits on the floor away from you, stay where you are, let him come over to the biscuits and eat the biscuits , whilst he is doing that slowly and quietly move back a bit, keep calling his name, put a few more biscuits down, and repeat, until he slowly comes over to you, put your hand out slowly towards him at head level and let him come over to you, and let him touch your hand with his head. Stay there for a while until he comes next to you, don’t stand up or ‘try and grab him’, just gently move away. Hopefully he will follow you. If he doesn’t, leave him where he is, but make sure he stays insight. Leave you back door or patio doors open so he can go in the house when he is ready. Good luck.

I’ve finally got my 4 cats vaccinated and boosted. Getting the cats to the vets on 8 separate occasions was a bit of a nightmare. Thankfully and hopefully that’s it for another 12 months.
