The Smiths & Morrissey thread

35 years ago today, the greatest band that ever was played their first gig - 4th October 1982 - at Manchester's Ritz, supporting Blue Rondo A La Turk.

The line up of Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Dale Hibbert (his one and only gig) played 4 songs and were introduced by Morrissey's friend James Maker, who remained on stage dancing and shaking maracas (something he did for the second gig too, before being ditched!)

The songs played were
Hand that rocks the cradle
Suffer little children
Handsome devil
I want a boy for my birthday (cover of a Cookies song)

I've had it with this dickhead. Breaks my heart but he's gone too far now. Although I'm sure it was mainly to get publicity for his new record.

If he's gonna back some odious little hag who groups all Muslims as one and evil he can fuck off. He wouldn't like it if someone grouped all Anglo Irish like him as IRA supporters would he??

He's all grown up now it's not a game. I'm tempted to go to McDonalds every time he utters one of his pearls of wisdom.
But it is a game for him to get publicity..... and the media lap it up..... all pointing out his new album is out next month..... that's the name of the game...

politics and music is the great big divide in life its hard to understand somebody views on life and the music they put out sometimes gives you the answer you may not like it when somebody you respected just for there music trying to make a point with the power of music and sometimes it goes right over your head

morrissey is marmite and meat is murder

He aspires to dickheadedness. The man is beneath dickhead level. And, I might add, musically inept. How he's managed to earn more than 50p in his musical career is a complete mystery to me.

Succinct and factually accurate. Whoever told the c@@t he could sing needs fucking!! ;)

Loved the song but thought he was a bit rough last night on Jools.

I was a bit rough watching it if that's any consolation to the man.

I wonder if he had three gins, a bottle of red and to finish a treble malt the night before too.

NB: That combination of drinks is not a good idea.

NB 2: All spirits were Magic Measures minimum trebles.

You thought he was rough last night? Take it you didn't listen to the Radio 6 stuff the other day, he sounded as croaky Theresa May.

Dont think i could listen to more than 1 song if thats his best these days

A pretty lame attempt to defend the idiot.
Although possibly true, he could've chosen any "controversial/edgy" subject to gain some free publicity for his album.
And if you are implying he just says stuff like this as a way of creating some sort of buzz to flog a few more albums, then you must see it is all an act and you are being played as much as the media are - if he is only saying shit for attention, as it is not just the media who are lapping it up.
He probably believes what he has said wholeheartedly.
