Very restrained reply given the circumstances. You have a deal, you play gigs, you are active in the world and people want to talk to you about all manner of things. The idea that M can police what you say in reply to journalist questions is daft.

I think he wasn't quoted completely accurately in this article. An intimate act with an inanimate foodstuff seems more likely than him considering another human being worthy of intimacy.

Dave Haslam hates Morrissey doesn’t he? Wasn’t he organising a protest against him on the day that Morrissey was going to play Castlefield? Ended up being cancelled.
