The Squad planning thread

We have known Txiki to be a shrewd negotiator who has given immense success to the club but as he leaves I am very excited to see what Viana does.

I always felt Txiki played quite safe in the market. Who we need to buy to strengthen the squad - The wily winger from Monaco or the starting RB from Spurs or you know that - the future Spanish BallonD'or winner from Atletico Madrid and guess what he has a release clause!

With Viana I predict some quite out of the box players to come in the future - The Uzbekistan defender from French league or the 18 year old defender from the Brazilian league. Maybe when it comes to signing our next winger - we may sign some Angolese kid plying his trade in Norwegian league rather than negotiating with Wolves for Cunha. A few will fail but the one's that succeed over here would be so fun to watch!

Viana needs to challenge Pep though as well? Spending money while Pep plays his favourite older boys needs sorting if we are to play with high energy and pace again? If Peps boys aren’t there then a proper young rebuild can happen

We need to improve the team, and the defence hasn’t been great. Stones and Aké too injury prone, Reis no PL experience and would be better loaned out, possibly Khusanov too. Nunes, O’Reilly and Lewis are midfielders.

We could do with someone tall in central defence, for set pieces too.

With the number of games we play, and injuries, having Dias, Akanji, Gvardiol and Huijsen as the central defenders in the squad would be superb next season.
 
Is there a chance if both our current goalkeepers want to leave that due to their relatively low prices that we could sign Costa and Garcia?

No, both are starters. It'll be one and Zetterer more likely.

Sadly I think you can add Grealish to the list of almost certain departures.

I'd hope that at least one of the keepers, Bernardo and Kovacic stay for one more season. I think they have more to offer than Gundogan these days.

I'd also hang onto one of Stones or Ake (despite injuries) unless we're bringing another experienced CB in. Khusanov, Reis and Bah are all young and lacking experience, so keeping a more 'mature' CB for another season makes sense, especially if his minutes can be managed.

I also suspect that one of Savinho or Doku might depart if there's in interest.

When he’s this good, young, premier league proven and has a reasonable release clause, yeah we do.

Stones can’t keep fit, Ake’s barely played, Reis has less than 150 minutes of football with us and will probably go out on loan.

Huijsen, Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol, Akanji is a brilliant core of CBs.

Agreed mate, really tall but relatively quick too. Not too muscly either so hopefully not injury prone. We miss a massive presence for set pieces.

Plus he plays some beautiful passes. Pep would love him. Give him a couple of years in our system and he could very well be the best CB in the world.

Yes, forgot Jack - in attitude he seems to have moved on already - to the sandpits with Eddie? Big future for that big lad Bah too, hope it's with us!

£30m to send him out on loan? Same with Savinho who also cost us £30m and some think will follow a similar path.
If that happens the club has made two more expensive mistakes - they won't be coming back - I hope they stay and improve to our level as expected.

Problem is that you need to sell to buy players and that’s where it starts. RB,CM are far more important

I think Reis needs a loan just due to his age and build. He’s only had one season of proper football.

Savinho I think we’ll stick with. He can score goals, we know this from his time at Girona. He does need to put in serious work on his finishing though, his xG is 5 and he only has a single league goal.

think he's not gonna make it with us sadly - can't afford the squad space to give him a decent chance.

Pretty sure we won’t sign any centre back this summer, if in the unlikely event we were to sign Huijsen though it would have to be to replace Akanji, we have no room in the free list otherwise. Stones and Ake leaving would be no help to making room.

That's true, along with 4 other done deals that didnt happen.
Felt sorry for the guy, he thought football manager was a real World.
