The Squad planning thread

We need a new vision here. Tactically we are bankrupt. I watched the U18s play Villa prior to the Cup Final. Villa did exactly the same to us as Southampton and Palace did. It was the same game. This side to side , possession football is now not working.
It is not all about the players, we have to evolve tactically. This has always been Pep’s strength. I hope he has more in his locker because right now it is too easy for average teams to beat us..

I got bollocked for saying this on here about 6 months ago. Football has evolved from small technicians being able to run rings around physical brutes to those same physical brutes suddenly having enough technical ability to match the others while still being physically stronger and more powerful.

We need to evolve with it and quick.

Munoz would be ideal but probably a year or two older than a player City would go for?
contracted till 2029, palace no need to sell, zero links etc

think the target lists will be finalised by now, itll be Wesley but would prefer a more senior lad, maybe they pivot if they get a taker for Nunes but no links with him going either.

Absolutely..
Football is like life, if you don’t continually evolve you are dead in the water.
It’s clear our tactics are done. We have to move on, one way or another

Our fullbacks are the problem, would release centre halves & midfielders to the their proper positions (Josko, Nico, Ake, Akanji); buy Ait Nouri & Livermento &/or Cambiaso who can play both sides! Then hopefully Wirtz & Reijnders - what a team with Rodri back!!!!!

We've got a week of reckoning coming up.
Get 4 points and we're looking at Reijnders, Rodrygo etc...

Miss out on CL qualification and it's definitely MGW etc...

I agree. I’ve been saying for ages we need pace and power. The ideal build is like a winger in rugby.

If you’re that build, with pace, you don’t need amazing technique, just be decent for PL standard, but quick, strong and direct. Kind of the antithesis of Bernardo.

Is that the same U18 team that have been absolutely brilliant this season? A bit strange to bring up one result for the EDS to back up your argument.

It's simply not true that smaller technicians are being beaten by big brutes. Psg and barca who's weakness is their defense have plenty of small technicians and doing fantastic. Obviously if the bigger player is close in technicality then his size can close the gap but technical big brutes or super athletic technical players aren't that common. At the top level a balance is required because you simply don't say no to players like joao neves because someone like Bellingham can do a Zidane turn and runs all day.

Huge part of the problem. Either Pep fixes it directly or believes that midfielders running from deep will aid with fixing it. Either way, needs sorting.

Mahrez has left a huge hole. Sane scored, sterling scored, mahrez scored none of the current wingers score. They are young so it’s not set that they won’t but we need contribution from our other forwards badly

I’d like to go narrower with foden (right) haaland marmoush (left) and have the fullbacks provide the width.

Baleba x Rodri.

This ain't gonna happen but I'd just go F*** everyone were gonna go balls out

£120mil - Wirtz
£120mil - Rodrygo
£60mil - Reijnders
£40mil - Kerkez (Robinson)
£60mil - Livramento (Vanderson)

That's 3 world class players and 2 of the best young full backs in the country

Won't happen but one can dream

Ederson
Livramento - Dias - Gvardiol - Kerkez
Rodri - Reijnders
Rodrygo - Wirtz - Marmoush
Haaland
I STAND BY THIS !!!! Balls to the wall. I don’t know about you lot but this year was HELLwe’ve been SHIT FOR 9 months. But no more ! I want to win trophies and enjoy watching my club.

Additions/modificstions
Cherki can play across the front like and you can never have enough creativity
Ait Nouri has won the most tackles against dribbles. Highest g/a as a defender. More experience. Still fast and way more tech
Munoz looks like dynamite he’s prem proven in his prime. Vanderson played in the Europe.
