The Squad planning thread

There's an additional point to be added as it stands
Some of the B+'s this time around haven't moved into the A+ category - which may be down to coaching, or more likely lack of application on their part. (I'm not into calling players out for the most part - so don't ask me who I think falls into this)
I do wonder what the real/average return is. For all the B+ players we and others buy, how may turn into A+ players? Not just immediately, but longer term A+ performance. I wonder if our return is higher than others? Do some teams do a better job at improving average players, but still not helping them hit A+ (maybe just a A?). It would be an interesting analysis. Probably people could never agree on the “grades” so could never be done!! There are lots of factors at play as you say. Some in the players control, some not.

Would be another player that would do absolutely fuck all against a low block.

His passing, crossing and close control are pretty good though. A bit more of an all round game than most of our wingers. It's probably defensive work rate that would need the most work but he seems like he'd have the energy for it.

Worst part is probably the price tag.

I don't think it's necessarily about not signing world class players. The signings we've made simply aren't anywhere near the same level as players who have left.
Which are one and the same, surely?

De Bruyne left. Walker left. Mahrez left. All world class in their prime.

None of them replaced by players considered "world class" at the point of signing.

Who should we have signed to replace the above who were of the same level?

I'd agree with most, if not all of this except I'd be selling Doku.

Do not understand the fascination with him, it's his third season and he has 7 total league goals. Folk laugh at Saka but wank Doku off
Saka takes penalties and corners. We saw Doku’s ability last night

No, they weren't all considered world class but they'd all played in the Premier League and were all very well respected as great players who had potential to go on and be better. I remember us signing Walker and everyone was excited because he was recognised as probably the best full back in the league. We've not even attempted to replace him.

Mahrez always tore us a new one whenever he played against us. He consistently scored and assisted particularly during the season when Leicester won the league. Doku has been here 3 seasons and has 17 goals & 32 assists in 119 games, Mahrez got 17 goals and 11 assists in 37 games when they won the league. The gulf in quality between the two is enormous.

And then De Bruyne, arguably our greatest ever player. We've not even attempted to replace him.

It's not just the quality of the squad that we've let deteriorate, it's the lack of creativity and goals too.

Depending on where Villa finish and them still having PSR issues there is an outside chance of that but the likes of Olise, Doue etc just wont happen due to prices demanded and they actually may not want to come?

I think Olise would come if we gave him near Haaland level money, I thought he had a release clause this summer but have seen Bayern have denied that.

Rogers will move this summer though, probably to Liverpool or Arsenal.

What the champions league has shown is that technical ability trumps running and physicality. We should be targeting technical players
Foden and Bernardo are our most technical players, one is leaving whilst the other is on the bench. Both have found it difficult this season to link up with
our forwards and rarely do either break the defensive lines with a run in behind with a give and go, which they would have done a couple of seasons ago.

Staggering we didnt do the double deal with River Plate when it was offered!

Yeah that was another blunder, £20m wasn't it??

We could've bought him, kept Lavia (so we wouldn't have bought Phillips) and still had £20m in the bank <smh>

The original core 4 were ofcourse Yaya, Kompany, David Silva, and Aguero. Somewhere along the journey.. Ferna, KDB, Gundo, Bernardo and Rodri joined them.

And we have hoped Foden would join them but..

I think the core 4 going forward from next season are Erling, Khusanov, Jeremy and Rayan Cherki.

I’d say:
Dumfries
Kvararakhelia
Guimaraes

Spurs let him go because they weren't even sure if he was the best full back at Tottenham
Spurs let him go because we paid £50m which was a ridiculous amount at the time and we were slagged off left, right and centre for it.

Turns out we knew his value and he went on to be, in my opinion, the best right back this country has seen.

I hope we don't sign any player this summer, just clear the books

Say bye to the following :

1- Bernardo
2- Stones
3- Ake
4-Kalvin Philips
5-Rico Lewis
6- Kovacic
7- Ruben Dias
8-Max Elleyne
9-Mfuni
10-Reindjers

Gring back : Vitor Reis,Echeverri,
And use : Nypan & Mcaidoo

Starting Eleven for next season

I know that but they thought they had just as good full backs with them and Walker wouldn't be missed
