The Squad planning thread

People here expect triple squad or centurion squad lvl at all times when the so called players don’t even exist anymore. This bunch of footballers is just a weaker generation than the 10‘s and it’s obvious.

Interest on players like Kayode is weird too. No technical ability. Whatever the plan is it doesn’t look good

Yea but its easy to spin

Cherki is an elite world class talent
Doku has finally found his feet as a world class winger
Semenyo & Guehi were team of the year kinda players
Khusanov is a diamond
Nico O'Reilly explosion onto the scene is amazing
Nunes has become one of the top right backs in Europe
We still have the single most prolific #9 in world football
Finished 2nd either 2 trophies depsite losing both our starting CBs in Dias and Gvardiol for half the season
Nico Anderson seems likely, arguably the top rated young midfielder available on thw market

Even if we let Rodri and all those you mentioned go, this could be our team

Nunes Khusanov Guehi Gvardiol
Cherki Anderson NOR Doku
Semenyo Haaland

That XI can win the title im sure of it, plus I expect any of those bigger fees (like Marmoush/Nico G/Savinho) that go will be replaced adequately

This season was a HUGE improvement over last season
 
Erling Haaland → 37 goals + 8 assists, 1.02 goal contributions per 90 minutes


Rayan Cherki → 10 goals + 14 assists, 0.8 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Jérémy Doku → 8 goals + 14 assists, 0.7 goal contributions per 90 minutes


Omar Marmoush → 7 goals + 3 assists, 0.7 goal contributions per 90 minutes


Antoine Semenyo → 8 goals + 3 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Phil Foden → 10 goals + 5 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Tijjani Reijnders → 7 goals + 8 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes


Sávio → 3 goals + 3 assists, 0.4 goal contributions per 90 minutes

So what we can understand from these statistics...

Haaland-Cherki-Doku should be regular starters and Doku deserves a raise.
Right now he earns twice-thrice less than every our attacking player.

Marmoush is a very good player but lacks mobility, he only delivers results when plays CF, but when you have Haaland,
there is no point in keeping such player on the bench and paying him 300K.

Savio needs to move on. His results aren't enough for City.

Semenyo / Foden / Reijnders should stay, but unless results are improved, should be regarded as bench players.

And we definitely need a RW, that will deliver results similar to Doku.

First team: Haaland CF, Doku LW, Cherki N10, New Player RW
Second team: Semenyo CF / LW / RW, Foden N10 / RW, Reijnders LAM / N10.

So Savio + Marmoush Out
New RW In.

And we will be covered well for the next season in terms of front 4 positions.
 
as per Martin, we are in the market for a left back, is O'Reilly getting midfield slot ?

Exactly players like Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice are seen as the best midfielders in the world, the level of football has gone down significantly. There are more and more players with less technical ability but more physical athletes where the ball bounces off their shin but they can run longer and harder then most.

I pray the club understands technique will always triumph over physicality

FWIW I don’t get the dislike for Semenyo, so agree with Martin@TMW. Semenyo can play anywhere across the front line. We needed him and he has delivered.

Agree there seems to be so few top ability RW’s around in Europe. I blame the coaches who get right footed players, to play on the left side, so right footed players can come inside on their stronger foot.
