The Squad planning thread

Yuk. Cucurella and Porro. One of them is too much

Nothing happened with either yet but dont forget Txiki and Pep wanted Cucurella? Maresca also managed him and got the ultimate best out of him? Dont let personal feelings about him cloud the professional opinion of a player as the club has a plan and who`s not to say IF we signed them two we dont win the league next season?

Matteo is the best journalist in Spain. Anything to do with Spanish teams and Spanish players he’s the best for

I will try not to let my "personal feelings about him cloud the professional opinion of a player" lol :)

To be fair, Txiki and Pep were desperate for Cucurella and Maresca had him flying?

To be fair, Pep and Txiki had their eyes on players who turned out to be bad too.

There are plenty of good young fullbacks available with higher ceilings/potential. I would rather we sign one of those. The fact that Cucurella and Porro are bell ends on the pitch (the latter to a lesser extent) is also something that I personally do not like.

I love the idea, two proper full backs. Porro and Cucurealla

Porro Khus Gvardiol Cucurella
Anderson Rodri ORielly
Cherki Haaland Doku.

I love the look of it

Move Nico into midfield to replace reijnders and have Anderson, Nico and Rodri share minutes.

Cucurella as the starting lb. Would be ideal imo

No one is slagging him off. He did not have a good understanding of space which is why Pep didn’t play him there. I still don’t understand your first sentence. You’re claiming Grealish was a 10 that Pep forced out wide. Neither Doku or Semenyo fit that description, only Cherki does, which is why I mentioned only him out of our other attackers.
Grealish isn’t a left 8 either. He only played 10 or LW for Villa. Being a Pep midfielder isn’t about winning fouls, it’s about near perfect Pausa which Grealish famously struggled with. He claimed that this “pausa” style of play limited his GA which was untrue because Mahrez had better numbers on the opposite flank whilst being better at pausa.
Pep did play him but as a winger which he is not, Pep gave the free role to Gundogan, which if you ever watched him before his injury, you would understand, but when he left Pep effectively gave the role to Kovacic, not sure why you mention Mahrez as he had better figures at his previous club, than Grealish had at his previous club, Foden would be better as he turned to shit every time Pep put him on the right wing, this is noy an attack on Pep he does what he has to, it is an attack on all those that are devaluing a good player that Everton want, as when he plays they play better.

Grealish just wasn’t good enough ultimately. He had a few purple patches, notably in 22/23 but what he gave us as an individual wasn’t worth £100m. The Treble was great but give current Doku ( or any above average left winger with a brain) that 22/23 team and we still win the Treble. We were never dependent on Grealish.

I have done my goalie/defence, 1 player out Ake due to game time, 1 player in Branthwaite.
Now the midfield which due to various reasons, and reasons i think City will try to reduce, is split into 2 groups those that can attack and those that can defend, so lets take the box to box/CM/DM`s via game time, taking in Bernardo leaving and most likely Anderson coming.
Bernardo 2888 minutes probably all taken by Anderson,
O`Reilly 2649 will want more in midfield,
Reijnders 1638 will want a lot more,
Nico G 1568 will want a lot more,
Rodri 1515 will want a lot more,
Lewis 402 not going to get more, loan would be best,
Kovacic 127 will want vastly more.
So the first thing is, we are over loaded, and almost every player is going to want more game time in midfield, my choice would be, out Kovacic, swap Rodri and £50 million for Valverde. Can you imagine a central midfield of O`Reilly, Anderson and Valverde.

Would be a very limited midfield in possession and would be awful over 38 games. Two players with no passing range in NOR and Valverde and all three have no pausa. Valverde isn’t even that good of a midfielder, he’s a better RB.
