The Squad planning thread

Offer Wolves £100 million for Cunha and Lemina. Cunha is a quality attacker and will surely move to a bigger club next summer. He's of the required quality. Lemina is 31 but he can play the #6 role for the rest of this season (physical and with reasonable ability) and can be used to rest Rodri from next summer onwards on a 2-3 year deal. Both will be attracted by CL football. Go for both in January or Lemina (desperately needed position to fill) in January and Cunha in summer 2025.
A lot of supporters really don't rate Nunes and neither of the two players are any better than him

They are all City legends and have played a huge part in our incredible success in recent years, a contribution that will never be forgotten. But in sport, sometimes you have to put romance and emotions aside.

Walker
Stones
Gundogan
Bernardo
KDB

We must part ways with them in the best possible way, for the future of this club. If it's up to me I will add Grealish and Nunes to the list as well.

We need a new RB, CB, LB, DM, CM and SS, maybe a GK as well if Ederson wants to leave again.

6-7 new players in one transfer window? This is never going to happen, certainly not the first transfer window of a new director of football. It should takes at least two years to integrate so many new players into a football team, especially Pep's team.
This only highlights the magnitude of our last transfer window's failure. You don't need to be a genius to understand that the worn and tired Rodri needed a back up player for the rotation. You can't sell a goal scorer like Alvarez, and for so much money, and not bring any replacement. You can't continue to rely on Stones, who gets injured every time a fresh breeze blows, or Walker, who loses his pace and for him its game over. It was written in giant letters on the wall but no one wanted to read it.
I think 6/7 is going to happen, we don't have a choice. If the season continues as it is, we will have no choice.

Cunha not better than Nunes ? He's levels above him. Lemina is a decent stop gap for this season in the #6 role Where we have a massive hole and a rotational piece for Rodri when he comes back. Both are PL experienced.

The net spend trophy is very comforting as the defeats continue. Well done to everyone involved.

Not by a long chalk. Nunes was brought in as a stop gap well. Both suggestions will not improve upon the current situation.

And I'm bloody certain that Lemina will be delighted to sign "as a stop gap".
Pay increase, CL football (hopefully), playing under Pep, no specific allegiance to Wolves. He should be an attainable target in January. He'll get plenty of minutes this season and when (if) Rodri returns next season he'll be needed then too. I called him a stop gap - doesn't mean he'll be used that way.

Palmer has been the best player in the league this season?
Come off it. He's not even been the best Chelsea player.

As for Lavia, if you think he would be starting ahead of Gundogan, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Is that because gundo has been in great form ?

Looking at the squad in terms of its development, I can’t help feel we’d have developed more smoothly if we had retained/re-signed Palmer, Lavia, Couto, Luiz, and Porro. They might not all have worked, for sure, but they are all technically good and would have made it easier to continue playing possession-based football. Instead, we’ve increasingly shifted to playing basketball-football for two seasons now and then wonder why so many players are struggling.

Palmer, Porro and Lavia are gone more than a season and we seemed to be ok without them.
The start of this season is a little different in that we looked short on numbers.
We sold/ loaned several players that might not be top level but would have added strength to our squad.
Some of Callum Doyle, Couto and Kabore would be beneficial, all young and capable of running for 90 minutes.
Its the riddle of how to retain one or two younger players and providing them with game time.
I see Gittens scored for Dortmund yesterday and Chelsea are supposedly interested in Delap.
