The Squad planning thread

From the noises coming out from the club its looking more and more like we are in a 1 in 1 out situation with transfers

Plus we have to balance the 17 foreigners of which we have 1 too many at the moment if we assume Reis will be registered for the CL next season

I think definitely gone are KDB & Walker

With Grealish and Ederson being probables

I think this is why MGW makes sense for the club being a homegrown player to replace Grealish

Diogo Costa will replace Ederson like for like

It then gets tricky on who replaces KDB and Walker , if we go for Wirtz & Cambiaso then we are two over the foreigner cap

Which would mean two current foreign lads leaving - could be Stefan ? Bernardo ?
This is why we need to bomb off Gundogan like Barca did.

Echeverri makes us currently 2 over the 17.

Indeed. The club really made a mistake here. He will take a place while being the 5th choice CM next season. Knowing pep he might somehow get 20 games but still.

Knowing Pep ? from your post you know Pep less than just about anybody.

Well I meant he being hesitant to not use certain players during certain games. Like this season against United when he chose the worst XI you can choose from

I hope Nathan Ake’s operation really sorts out his injury problem.
I sometimes think that maybe his “sick note” label has been exacerbated by so many others being injured.
Would love a settled back four with new right back, Dias,Gvardiol and Ake allowing NOR to develop further forward next season.

He’s missed 76 games since joining and has had 5 separate injuries this season alone. The fact that he’s picked up injuries whilst on international duty, when playing successive games, hasn’t helped.

Agreed! £80m for Wharton or MGW is only one winner

I don't want MGW, but I can see why the club would go for him over Wharton.

I think we have a lot of players like Wharton, that small diminutive silky style player, whereas the brutal, energetic, blood and thunder box to box player in MGW we don't have.

Pep alluded to the notion that the PL is becoming more and more about pace and power earlier in the season and I think that's another reason we want MGW.

I think MGW is seen as the player profile we wanted in Bellingham and Rice but ended up with Nunes.

Wharton is 6ft tall, he isn't small.

Also, to say he isn't brutal or energetic, he is one of the best defensive players in the league, with exceptional passing from deep.

MGW main advantage is he plays higher as more of an 8/10, while Wharton is deeper as more of a 6/8.

But if Lewis is being seen as that higher pocket player (last game alluded to this) then perhaps that attacking midfielder higher up is not as necessary as we think (O Reilly can easily play here as well), and if Bernie or Kovacic are nearing an exit (seems like we have them, but who knows, but they are older and need replacing soon), then I like Wharton MORE than MGW.

Wharton is a unit - definitely not a small one either! (Over 6ft btw MGW is 5'7")

Said a few weeks back in an interview in Spain that the only difference between Spain and England was money and that he wanted to stay in Spain.
Dont think ive seen a link either apart from here.

They play in different positions though, in Wharton's position we have Rodri and Nico, in Givbs White we have Gundogan, Kovacic, maybe Bernardo. I like Wharton but if we want a homegrown midfielder to replace Grealish MGW is a better fit in the squad.

Nico could push on? Or even Wharton can play in tight spaces?
