Looking back now, i wonder if thats what happened with Phillips? I remember now watching his Inside City video and he was completely in amazement of the facilities etc? I would imagine even more so when he joined the rest of the squad and intensity of training and Pep?
 
I don't think Phillips was ever good enough.
Never bought into the hype around him after Euro 2020. The Yorkshire Pirlo etc.
He was average enough sitting in front of the defence alongside Rice.

Spot on always expect the unexpected injuries can happen at any time,this season should show them,more so pep what can happen and then it unravels..
 
also why he approved then 4 new January signings. not the time to stay loyal, if he wants smaller squad start saying good bye to Ake, Stones, Grealish, Gundo and put faith towards Nico, Khusanov, Echeverri, Reis.

we need to let go of 8 players, bring in only 5, that will reduce numbers a bit and give more serious roles to younger ones-
Walker, KDB and one of GKs surely leaving. but these positions surely need to be replaced with quality. McAtee doesnt need replacement, we already have Echeverri or Bobb.

Stones, Akanji, Bernardo, KDB and Gundogan all have to go then to make space for a couple new signings. Whoever we sign would fall below any of the above in the pecking order, as Pep is extremely loyal to his old favourites.

Expect Grealish, McAtee and Ederson to leave too. No idea what will happen with Nunes who’s turning into a solid RB. Interesting to see that Rico has been dropped from the squad 2 games in a row. Doubt he goes anywhere but he has played less than I expected. I’d keep Ake around as a 4th CB (Dias, Gvardiol, Khusanov) despite his injury record, who’s sligtly better than Stones’, and keep Kovacic as a squad player for one more year

I honestly don’t see it. Maybe ederson, grealish and one of stones or ake follow kdb out. Along with fringe players like mcatee and prob a loan for reis

I think we sign maybe 3 players (1 being a gk) It’s pep. It’s the way he is. He has always liked a small squad and he is so loyal to his favourites.

Gundo, Bernardo, kovacic will all be here next season and I expect them to all play a lot of football.

I don’t think it’s the right thing to do but it would be naive to think otherwise. I think pep does one more year and Bernardo and Gundo leave with him
 
For me: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Akanji, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish, McAtee are my permanent exits. Reis and Echeverri may be well be loaned out - would like them to stay id they are good enough though.


Goalkeeper, 2 full-backs, 2 midfielders, potentially a winger
