The Squad planning thread

Just get Ola Aina in, yea Livramento has the age but I'm still not convinced and at potentially £80mil or more...that's crazy

Aina is 28, hes not old and isnt gonna drop off a cliff hell be able to perform at this level for minimum 3 years if not longer

Only a year left and on moderatewages, £20m-£30m will probably do it, if that

Sure we can.

He is one of the best attacking RBs in the world.

Feels odd to say, but genuinely, there arent many better options than him.

I also like abd want Livramento, but more as a all rounder RB, Nunes beats him as an offensive threat.

If we dont want to pay the Tino fee then we should go for Aina then imo.

Not at all mate, would Nunes start for any of the other big teams we now compete with for the champions league and premier league?
Such hope. ;-)

I tend to agree, however. We will likely be going into the next season with 3 players that have a similar sort of utility (Nunes, Gonzalez, and Lewis). All of them are right-footed and all have a current usefulness, but I already question whether we will need all three beyond this season or indeed whether each has more rungs on his ladder to climb.

Yeah, time for outgoings Hugo.

- Cherki in.
- Reijnders in.
- Ait-Nouri in.
- Echeverri > Loan.
- 2 of Kovacic, Nunes or Gundogan > Sale. You sell all 3 if you bring in another midfielder/attacker.
- I think keep Bernardo and Akanji, in an ideal world you sell Akanji for good money but Stones/Ake can't stay fit. In which case:
- Stones/Ake > Sell 1 if you get a great offer. Selling either doesn't really benefit the squad space though. Unless you bring in an HG Nation Associate attacker, ala MGW. Rogers or a Palmer would take a club spot so that's fine (not that they're on the table).
- McAtee > Loan/Sale.
- Phillips > Sale.
- Bah > Loan.
- Walker > Sale.
- Khusanov or Reis > 1 goes out on loan.

Grealish out, Livramento in, is possible but a tough deal to make on the latter

Ederson/Ortega/Bettinelli
Livramento*/Lewis/Akanji
Dias/Stones/Ake/Khusanov
Ait Nouri/Gvardiol
Rodri/Gonzalez/O'Reilly
Reijnders/Bernardo/Foden/Cherki
Doku/Marmoush
Savinho/Bobb
Haaland
1 of Nunes/Kovacic/Gundogan for now. You'd probably keep Nunes until you lock a right back down.

*Hypothetical

There is also the argument that an older player plays PL but not CL football for us (Gundogan), possible with the U21's not needing to be registered in the PL, unlikely though.
Like wise an U21 playing PL but not CL football (Reis/Echeverri).

Good luck Hugo (& Pep)!

Echeverri and Reis loaned out or stay as u21 for just prem, thats easy to do.

Still need to free up 2 more spots... probably has to be Gundogan, Bernie and Kova? 2 of them.

The only other option is Akanji, and that feels too risky with Stones likely leaving.
Don't think it's as easy to do as it is to say. Fairly sure neither will stay and be left out of the CL squad.Plus we have no idea whether Pep wants them with his squad or to go on loan either, may well depend what he sees in the CWC. Think all final decisions will be made when they come back.

Still not convinced we have enough goals in this team.
Looking back at the last 5 years:

2020/21 - PL winners, LC winners, CL runner up - 61 games, 131 goals (2 own goals) - 2.15 goals per game.
7 goalscorers over 10 goals.

2021/22 - PL winners - 58 games, 150 goals (4 own goals) - 2.59 goals per game.
1 goalscorer over 20 goals.
6 goalscorers over 10 goals.

2022/23 - Treble winners - 61 games, 151 goals (3 own goals) - 2.48 goals per game.
1 goalscorer over 50 goals.
5 goalscorers over 10 goals.

2023/24 - PL, CWC, SC winners, FA Cup runners up - 59 games, 149 goals (5 own goals) - 2.53 goals per game.
1 goalscorer over 30 goals.
1 goalscorer over 20 goals.
2 goalscorers over 10 goals.

2024/25 - CS winners - 57 games, 114 goals (2 own goals) - 2 goals per game.
1 goalscorer over 30 goals.
1 goalscorer over 10 goals. (technically 2 with 1 on course pro-rata)

So I think we need to find nearly 40 goals from somewhere:
- Haaland gets you 30+.
- Marmoush can probably get 20+, conservatively 10+.
- Foden 10+.
- Cherki 10+. First season though, so big ask.
Hitting those numbers and everyone else gets their estimated 1-9 goals a season probably leaves us about 20 goals short, or 1 good attacker.
I don't see Doku, Savinho or any other midfielder doing it.

So I suppose I'm asking if people think this squad has enough goals in it?
Players who will step up and score more than 10 or if we need 1 more for next season?

I'm almost certain we should bring a goalscoring wide player in.

Disagree.

Reijnders scored 15 last season. Air Nouri 5. Cherki 12.

Foden will improve. Haaland scored 30 despite 2 months out and largely poor service. Rodri is good for 8-10. There’s Bobb who has goals in him.
What goals does Bobb has in him? Don’t see him more of a goalscorer than Doku or savinho.

No problem making up 20 goals from Doku, Savinho, Reijnders, Rodri, Gonzalez,Bobb and the defenders over a season. Definitely don't need another attacking player , other priorities.

Where are all these players that were on loan?
Kabore, Perrone, Philipps, C. Doyle etc.
I assume they are on holidays but seems pointless sending them out on loan again.
A few bob to be gained there in sales
Totally forgot Kabore, but he'll be sold. Perrone already sold. Phillips is on the list and Doyle has asked for a move already.

yeah should have listed more tbh, just forgot.

we spent a lot of money on Reis to not have a clear path for his development. If he is to be kept and not loaned out this season we should get rid of 2 centerbacks. Akanji is the non HG one so seems like a nonbrainer. We need to clarify the squad a bit.
