The Squad planning thread

Think I saw somewhere in here that Reis and Echeverri if they stayed in this country they would become homegrown though nobody seemed quite sure, so if that’s true and they do get loaned may be a consideration to keep them in England.
It's easy - both won't become club trained for any British club.

Let's say both were registered for City on 1 Jan 2025 (Reis 21 days later).
They have time til the END of the season they turn 21. That's the rule.
That would be end of 2026/27 (as both are born Jan 2006), right?

That would be 2.5 years in both cases -> defo no 3 years possible. Sadly.

You can generally say the lads have to be max 18 yo when they start being registered for City - not signed and loaned, but registered and staying with us - to become club trained for City.

Will be interesting to see who will be our max 6 international loans:

1 - Kayky, til end 2025 to Bahia/Brazil.
2 - Bah, to Nice as it seems.
3 - Kaboré back from Bremen, no update
4 - Walker back from Milan, no update
5 - Perrone, maybe to Como on a permanent?
6 - free - Couto off the books -> Dortmund

So, we don't have much room for our leavers,
but they could go on domestic loans (in unlimited numbers).

Phillips, Grealish, McAtee, maybe Stones/Gundo/Kova...
We'll see.

If I had to guess Walker, Kabore and Perrone will all leave on permanent moves this summer. Should give us more leeway on international loans.

1005 percent, but if they hunker down and the ball is in city's court to say leave them out of the squad or freeze them out of training in order to get them out, I don't think we'll go that far and haven't in the past with players with much less of a legacy at the club then these guys have.

It could be that pep will cave an accept running with a bigger squad for a year, or it could be younger players pay the price, or maybe itll go spectactularly well and they'll all get gone. Hard to see how it happens tho logistically. Could totally see us selling a player nobody expects like Doku or Rico Lewis instead to make the numbers work.
Our players have had little to no rest in between last season & 2025/6. The vast majority will also have little rest in between 2026/7 because of the WC.

The amount of CL matches has been significantly increased too, so if we're to compete on all fronts, it baffles me how Guardiola expects to do this with a senior squad of 18-20, not including EDL players.

I really hope & I suspect that selling the likes of Doku & Lewis is off the table. I honestly believe we're more likely to see many of the older & out of favour stars leave, which would give the likes of Lewis & Doku etc, the chances they need to express & prove themselves.

The latest I heard on Perrone is that Como and ourselves may be happy to continue with the current agreement and Como buy him at the end of the 2nd year loan period.
We would prefer the € 25m or thereabouts to go into next year's accounting period.

This is my hope too, but I do think a lot of the uncs are just going to hang on to their contracts. this happened in guardiola's first season with Sagna, Clichy and a few others, sometimes it just is what it is and you have to wait a year.

I hope your right tho.
Problem is we’ve already replaced them

If the END of the season they turn 21 in counts, by the same logic should the beginning of the season they joined nit count as well? I.e they look at it by the season ratger than the month. After all, it is not like their registration changes the very month players fill the 3 years and 'turn' homegrown.

It is likely not the case, but imo the logic should apply the same way.

They can be loaned domestically for one season and it still counts against the Home-Grown rule total (as far as I'm aware) . Club-Trained clock stops entirely though.

I get what you're saying but it's not really the same, as they weren't in that association until they actually join and are registered to play

We need to be selling currently - not loaning.
Not for financial reasons, but simply for squad size and common sense.

So that’s edwrson, Bernardo, stones and Gundo all wanting to stay and all their contracts expire end of this season.

Can’t help but wonder if pep leaves with them all as well? One last hurrah perhaps?

he has 2 years. we wont make this mistake again.

Ironically if we have a good season (win league or champs league) i can actually easily see pep leaving on that high.

Although he has a contract both parties know it can be broken at any point. They have a very close working relationship.

Pep has also talked about wanting to manage an international side. The next World Cup cycle will begin next summer and there will be job openings that may appeal to him. Also will mean he has done 10 years with us I believe

I can see him leaving. He can’t stay forever sadly

We won't be selling the newer/ younger players that we've bought recently and the older guys are on big money contracts and I doubt they'll take pay cuts to leave.
The guy in charge of loans is going to be busy.

Here we go again. We've heard all this for the last ten years. Give it a rest.

I think the club will go on a full HG offense next season with Stones and potentially Ake gone. Need to make sure to get the best available. With room in the CM position when all 3 uncs are gone next summer + 2 CB.. maybe MGW, Livramento and potentially Wharton if Nico G. gets sold.

I have no idea who is going to be sold to get the squad the right size but I suppose starting with Walker & Phillips...Grealish looks to be off too. Not sure how many need to go either but once the cwc finishes it'll be a race to get the numbers down. The problem is everyone is performing really well. I suppose injuries over the last 2 years will be in the equation so John Stones & Ake may be at risk but they are both excellent when fit. I'd be upset to see Macatee leave but maybe a loan is best at the minute. 30 into 21 doesn't go so its going to be a busy summer.
