The Squad planning thread

Donnarumma. Trafford. Betinelli

Lewis. Nunes. Stones. Ake. Akanji. Dias. Khusanov. Gvardiol. Ait-Nouri.

O'Reily. Rodri. Gonzalez. Gundogan. Kovacic. Bernardo. Cherki. Foden. Reijnders. Doku. Bobb. Rodrygo.

Haaland. Marmoush.

provided Donnarumma and Rodrygo happen, we'd have a 26 man squad we'd need another foreign player to leave. Pep also likes a 22/23 man squad lol

Who's going? My money is
on a Gundogan or Akanji.
Still don’t really get why pep wants so few players when we have players injury prone and you get 5 subs a game. Plenty of minutes for all particularly if you go deep in all competitions. He’s the first to cry that players are tired and need rest. You can’t have it both ways!

It wouldn't be so few that squad would be 1 over our maximum allowed NHG and 1 under our HG limit.

On the back of the performance in Wolverhampton, one thing is painfully evident. Unless it’s at the death or a dead rubber, it’s going to be nigh on impossible to start with a midfield that ever contains more than two of Gundogan, Silva, Kovacic, and even Rodri. They’re all great players, but the pace and the movement of the younger players will mean 3 plus acts as a drag chute,

I

think he is a top class palyer
Generally you have you have to win things to be classed as top class, KDB rates him, think he won Villa POTY, but i think Amadou Onana may turn out better than Fernandinho. I did say he was French he is not he is obviously Belgium.

They bought him from us last year but I think Boro may have loaned him to another club for this season.
Boro loaned him out to County in Jan last year, he played a couple games and then deemed not good enough and didn't start again.

He's still at Boro this year but they don't rate him.

You are right, but the difference to previous 'small squad' seasons is this year we have 3 CT players. We previously only ever had one before (foden). So we kind of automatically go 2 bigger. We usually always went with 21 out of the 25. This year we will go at the least with 23,24 by the looks of it.

I'm all for it btw. But Pep's comment on the squad being bigger isn't misplaced.

The next big thing in Portugese football. Following him for a year since his name popped up in a scouting report.
Heard quite a few podcasts about his next club being Madrid and he is more talented than PSG’s Nunes.

I was hoping City sign him next year when BSilva leaves as a perfect replacement.
Dude wants to go to Saudi for 75 million.

What a waste if true!

It's actually more than that we 'll have the 3 CT also Lewis and O'Reilly 2 U21 s that will be playing members of the squad, which they wern't in the past, So 21 + 3 CT + 2 U21 gets us to 26. That said If Gundogan and Akankji, Ortega go I don't think they will get replaced, giving us 16 +3+3+2 a match squad of 24 which is probably ideal.

So after today's team selection the squad looks like this with a week till the window closes.

EdersonTrafford, Betinelli

Khusanov Stones Dias Gvardiol Ake Ait Nouri

Lewis Nuñes Rodri González Reinjders Bernardo O'Reilly

Cherki Foden Savinho Doku Bobb

Haaland Marmoush

23 players 16 NHG

Ederson, Savinho have question marks hanging over them. And if they were to leave they would need replacing.

Like @JewelZee mentioned in another thread, a lot of our fanbase collectively suffers from cognitive dissonance bordering on delusion. I don't know if it's arrogance, or are we turning into Manchester United with our mentality?

We compare the likes of Trafford, Lewis, or Bobb to Donnarumma, Rodrygo, or Cancelo for that matter. You can say about them whatever you want (especially Cancelo), but they are world-class players who are miles better than the hyped-up academy bunch above. I mean Oscar is a great player, but he is a mid-PL standard at best right now, completely untested as it stands. Trafford looked great in a dominant Burnely side in the Championships, but some of our fans would rather have him ahead of arguably best keeper in the world. Finally, we have Rico, who wouldn't start for any other PL team, and yet still a part of our fanbase is happy with him as a RB. The same people were happy to see Cancelo leave. I don't care if he is a dickhead, but as long as that dickhead can play football, I am happy with that.

I mean, we replaced Kyle Walker with Rico Lewis, I will leave it at that.

The strange part is that when someone points out our deficiencies they are accused of being like United fans. The ManUre fans I know big up all their players regardless of how shit they may be. That's what's happening to our base. Aggressive happy clappers turned angry, gas lighting clappers. Ambition is not a sign of entitlement. That's such a shit narrative.
