The Squad planning thread

You seem to have forgotten who our manager is and completely missed out how important technique and intelligence is to him.
You seem to forget what we had in Walker, Fernandinho, Kompany and Bernardo (to name a few). All monsters at one thing or another. Not just technically good.

Technical capabilities should be a given at this stage. Freakishly fast/strong/athletic is the difference maker on top of that imo.

So, Bernardo, Ortega and Stones leave at end of contract. Kovacic and Ake moved on as well due to injuries/being out of favour. Those are the likely departures.

On top of that, you could see Maybe Trafford going. And one of the wingers (I'd say Bobb most likely IMO, not exactly taking chances with both hands this season). I'd say those are the possibles.

Then maybe long shot departures are Rico (Lack of playing time) and Rodri (if he opts not to renew, he'll have a year left and you'd assume we would sell in that scenario)

Obviously not all of those players will go, but hard not to see at least 5/6 exits this summer.

there was a talk regarding extending Stones

but yea, Ake and Ortega might leave as soon as January, Ake is getting attention from Prem clubs and Italy

i would also expect for Trafford to go on loan to get playing time for WC

Think there was talk of extending De Bruyne as well, I just find it hard to believe with stones injuries and the money he's on, and the fact that he's not really been 1st choice this year.

We'll see though, maybe a wage reduction and 1 year rolling deal for stones might be doable.

Romano definitely knows what he’s on about with City as of recent. Also the murmurs about Semenyo mean there’s likely some truth. I think everyone sees Nunes as a temporary fix despite how well he has played as of recent. I think it’s the correct thing to do.
Or, or, or, Romano puts the obvious 2 and 2 together. Perhaps even reads a minute of blue moon and notices so many fans whining about those 2 positions

Exits in the summer of 2026 are likely to be: Bernardo, Kovacic, Ake, Echeverri, Lewis, Bobb, Savinho, Trafford, Ortega.

Donnarumma
[Livramento] Dias Gvardiol O'Reilly
Rodri Nico
Cherki Foden Doku
Haaland

[New GK]
Nunes Khusanov Stones Ait-Nouri (Reis)
[Gibbs-White] [Anderson]
[Rodrygo] Reijnders Marmoush
(Marmoush)

Go out and get a decent back-up keeper, get Livramento from Newcastle in a swap with Trafford, then Gibbs-White and Andersen from Forest, then try our hand at Olise, Semenyo, or (if those fail) Rodrygo. That squad can win a title.

We should have gone all out for Gibbs-White this summer. He's tenacious, knows how to scrap and fight, knows how to play for a team looking for transitions, has played behind a big target man for 2-3 years, and he's homegrown.

Madrid. I have always maintained the fact that footballers aren’t the brightest bulb in the shed. They’d easily jump ship to a club that disrespected them because it’s Madrid.
Rodri is veritably luminous by comparison to many. He may indeed return to Spain, but the longer he is out, the more difficult it will be for him to recapture his former glory. I’m hopeful he will remain, but it would be prudent for the club to identify 1-2 understudies in the coming windows.

We need another midfielder who can play as an 8 or 6 to partner Rodri or nico in tough away games but also had creativity to play more advanced in home games.

Someone like Paqueta, perhaps? I’m more in favour of signing young talent (Bouaddi and Smit), but I can also see the logic in signing such a ‘bridging’ player.
