The Squad planning thread

Bluemoon hits a new low - Mason Greenwood, lord above.
We are in trouble? In what way?
Get a grip, people.
We lost and we were poor, all over the pitch. It happens, every now and then.
Two weeks ago, we were title favourites again. Now, we are shite.

We are in transition. Many of us called it and we are not going to be winning every game while it happens. We are at least a season away from competing at the very highest levels with consistency. We are capable of beating anyone, but we will lose a few too. Enjoy the journey, the pleasure and the pain.
Agreed. Too many think that signing more players is the answer. We have plenty players, good players, but the problem is that the management has struggled to accommodate them all, partly because of injury, inexperience, the lack of a pre-season, and the staccato nature of the season, punctuated as it is with international breaks.

We only need to add a little more steel and experience in midfield (Rodri/Kovacic), be braver at changing the starting eleven, and using substitutes in games earlier.

yea, but we also need to find goals aprt from Haaland and i doubt management will solve that

Rodri/Kovacic - Rodri might come back, but we don't know when and how will he be, Kovacic will be sidelined till february/march

we will need midfielder and a winger

We need to sign players that are proven and consistent. Semenyo has been consistent for a couple of seasons now would bring goals and assists , Gibbs White consistently wins duels in midfield. Wharton the same consistently been a top midfielder since joining Palace.

Problem with the squad is there are too many projects instead of players that have consistently shown they can do it over a couple of seasons.

Whilst I agree that Greenwood is a terrible shout and don’t want him, for me it’s not about knee-jerk reactions to a defeat, it’s more about seeing the lack of quality we have.

Our best XI on a good day is a match for anyone, but beyond that there is a huge drop off.

For me, I don’t see any evidence from numerous chances they’ve had that Savinho, Bobb or Lewis will ever be the level we need. Furthermore if we waste time waiting for them, we’ll slip further behind when someone else buys Semenyo, Vinicius, etc as Arsenal already did with Eze.

We absolutely fucked up not selling Savinho and Lewis when Spurs and Forest offered reasonable money for them. That’s their level, and we want to be better than Spurs and Forest!

The club needs to get ruthless on these passengers, and more ambitious in the transfer market.

I too would also like to see Mason Greenwood at the Etihad but for different reasons. I’d like to stand there and boo him for 90 mins and applaud when someone two foots the ****.

There are always overreactions on here after a loss like that, as frustrating as it may be to read them it can also be quite humorous.

Over the years under Pep we have had little pockets of bad form where we think we need to re evaluate everything that was going well. Normally in December when the schedule gets tough. The players and Pep comeback obsessed and go on a 20 game unbeaten run putting us right in the mix. Let’s see if this group have it in them.

Also some chatter of us going in to the market in Jan is good as I do think some areas need addressing. Right back for sure, right wing maybe. Let’s see Foden or Cherki get some gams there as well but could see us going after that lad from Bournemouth because of the release clause but also the fact we need goal contributions from others.

Exits in the summer of 2026 are likely to be: Bernardo, Kovacic, Ake, Echeverri, Lewis, Bobb, Savinho, Trafford, Ortega.

Donnarumma
[Livramento] Dias Gvardiol O'Reilly
Rodri Nico
Cherki Foden Doku
Haaland

[New GK]
Nunes Khusanov Stones Ait-Nouri (Reis)
[Gibbs-White] [Anderson]
[Rodrygo] Reijnders Marmoush
(Marmoush)

Go out and get a decent back-up keeper, get Livramento from Newcastle in a swap with Trafford, then Gibbs-White and Andersen from Forest, then try our hand at Olise, Semenyo, or (if those fail) Rodrygo. That squad can win a title.

We should have gone all out for Gibbs-White this summer. He's tenacious, knows how to scrap and fight, knows how to play for a team looking for transitions, has played behind a big target man for 2-3 years, and he's homegrown.
Would honestly add Stones to the list of players who need shipping out now. Can't remember the last time he was fit for a decent run of games or actually played well.

You cant be serious. A wife beating rapist ?
Don't think anybody knows the full story tbh. She's stayed with him and even the girls dad said it was a load of nonsense and supported Greenwood. Why would any father support a lad who'd raped and battered their daughter? Think about it. Just don't believe it's all what you think it is. Seems like a load of nonsense to me.

I think we have a core set of mostly dependable players:

Haaland
Doku
Foden
Nico G
Bernardo
Dias
Gvardiol
Donnaruma
O’Reilly
Nunes (This season)

Everybody outside of that either (currently) lacks the bottle or ability to really make any positive impact on the team, barring those that are injured or have been injured.

I think Cherki will be good for us in time. Rodri hopefully comes back in good shape at some point. Marmoush I’m praying we can see something more from him but he isn’t a number 9.

How much would Wharton AND Anderson cost you think?

Rodri coming back from a serious injury/contract situation ongoing, Bernardo leaving and Reijnders not performing at all.

Listen to the audio.

Are people seriously trying to justify a possible signing of Mason bloody Greenwood?! Have a couple of bad results gone to people's heads THAT much or is some not-so-clever wumming on show today?

No, but he's better than what we have. I've watched him a few times for Marseille and he's been unbelievable.

Well unless the voice note was edited, it was horrific. Proper upsetting
