The Squad planning thread

Nobody has taken any responsibility for post treble recruitment. It’s mainly Begiristain’s fault and I’m not sure Viana is the guy. City is consistently underperforming on the market as well.

Phillips, Nunes, Savinho, thinking Bobb and Lewis are good enough etc. Zero midfield destroyer, zero dangerous scorer with pace apart from Haaland, awful football OOP and pressing patterns.

Also Pep has to take the responsibility for being not brutal enough. Soriano and blocking Savinho’s move is just ridiculous

Far, far too many mistakes for someone who wants to be at the top and demands to be here.

For a first post, your insight is incredible.

Elliott Anderson
Khephren Thuram or Manu Kone
This guy from Feyenoord as a RB
Dominant CB with pace and height - Schlotterbeck, maybe Bisseck from Inter etc.
Semenyo, Adeyemi. Winger with goals.

Bernardo, Kovacić, Savinho, Bobb, Stones or Ake, Ortega, maybe Lewis if possible OUT. I would prefer to give the chance to Mukasa.

I agree, completely.

Another big issue, from a fan’s perspective, is that City don’t seem to be identifying what we need early or planning with any real clarity. Every summer feels reactive instead of proactive, last-minute decisions, scrambled targets, and signings that don’t fully fit the system or address the obvious gaps. It’s like we’re drifting without a clear idea of what the squad actually requires to evolve.

And when you compare that to PSG, the contrast is honestly painful. They’re buying players who fit exactly what Luis Enrique wants. All technical profiles, high energy midfielders, dynamic attackers, players who suit the style from day one. There’s a sense of direction, cohesion, and planning in their recruitment that we simply don’t seem to have right now. They know exactly what they need to support the manager’s football while we look like we’re guessing, despite probably spending more money overall. It's frustrating.

This lack of early decision making and strategic planning is exactly why we’ve fallen behind in the market. It’s not the spending, it’s the structure, the vision, and the execution. And unless the club fixes that, the gap will only grow and we will fall further behind.

And honestly, it feels like what we’re doing off the pitch is bleeding directly onto the pitch. There’s a real disconnect now, not just between the fans and the club, but even between the backroom structure and the manager. The atmosphere last night was as poor as I’ve ever seen it for a Champions League game. You had people actually filming Leverkusen scoring and cheering just to get some clout for their TikTok accounts. You try to start a song and everyone turns and stares at you like you’re some kind of hooligan. There’s just no noise, no unity, no spark.

Even Marmoush tried to get the crowd going, and it barely lifted anything. On top of that, the club’s off pitch decisions like the North Stand expansion, the scattered plans, the lack of direction, all of it just adds to the feeling that we’re getting it wrong both ways. The chaos and confusion off the pitch is starting to show on it, and the lack of identity on the pitch reflects exactly how muddled everything feels behind the scenes.

Right now, it feels like we’re losing the standards that once defined us off the pitch and on it, and until the club reconnects with its supporters and regains clarity with it's decision making, unfortunately nothing is going to change.

Completely agree - people also forget we have done north of £300m on the squad since January 2025, with minimal sales. We’ve spent plenty of money.

Don't think anybody knows the full story tbh. She's stayed with him and even the girls dad said it was a load of nonsense and supported Greenwood. Why would any father support a lad who'd raped and battered their daughter? Think about it. Just don't believe it's all what you think it is. Seems like a load of nonsense to me.
How fucking naive can you be ffs. Embarrassing fella.

Looks like a load of nonsense I guess. She stayed with him because she had no choice, a lot of domestic violence victims rarely do. As for her dad, he was too busy flying about Manchester telling the world his son in law played for the rags and sponging off him for tickets for matches. Imagine seeing that as a father and listening to that video and supporting him, how cruel and twisted do you have to be.

It started from Grealish.
Txiki was top till Haaland’s transfer, but after Grealish and Phillips the club decided to sign players that are simply not good enough. It looks like agents don’t like us and we are working only with Stellar or Jorge Mendes.

The situation with no Rodri’s back-up and problems after his injury perfectly sums up our transfer recruitement. Txiki perfectly knows he did a lot od things wrong so he decided to leave. I don’t know if Viana is conscious of the problem.

Our board is arrogant and convinced they know better, so they are doing relatively too little on the market. Savinho’s situation is the perfect picture of Soriano’s arrogance. Last minute Nunes, Phillips, summer of 2024 and thinking selling Alvarez WITH NO REPLACEMENT is all but OK. Just doing everything NOT to spent.

They are behaving like a sinking shit instead of the club with the ambition. I see Nottingham Forest has more ambition than City. Look of how Arteta is backed in comparison to Guardiola. Everything in terms of recruitment and squad planning is simply not good enough. This is not the level that we’ve been in 2017-2021 in terms of planning.

Ortega
Lewis
Stones
Ake
Phillips
Kovacic
Bernardo Silva
Savinho

Should all be gone by latest next summer imo.

Guehi
Anderson or Wharton
Semenyo
Singo
Bah in
Reis back

In what particular way are Wharton and Guehi from reactive Palace tactics good enough to play for City? This is a tactical mismatch and Wharton would be next Kalvin Phillips in this tactics. Not a Guardiola midfielder at all. Guehi also not a Guardiola defender at all.

City needs 2 midfielders not 1. Two number 8. Too many technical midgets here who can play 10. Too little muscles, pace and stamina.

Reis and Bah? In what particular wah are they good enough to play for City? I see one struggling for Nice and the second one struggling in Girona.

Next group of players that are simply not good enough. When fans want players that are not good enough, we have the problem.

Just like United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool. Everyone is spending. Silly argument. I would love City to spent more to be honest. And City have sold Alvarez, Cancelo, Couto, McAtee, Harwood-Bellis for good money. City is one of the biggest sellers in world football. But since the treble the recruitment is pathetic. The problem is who they are buying not the money. The problem is that Savinho is not good enough, that Lewis is not good enough, but players like Palmer and Rogers left. That we are keeping technical midgets with no pace and athleticism just because they are from academy and we don’t have foreign spots.

Wharton would thrive under Pep imo and unfortunately players like Olise, Barcola, Doue etc will just be too expensive? We missed the boat with world class now as the prices are too prohibitive

Wharton is a typical fetish from English fans. Not a carrier, not a top passer so not Pep’s midfielder. 79% passing accuracy is unacceptable at City. City needs midfielders with 90%+ passing accuracy, not random dreams of English fans who in reality would be flops like Phillips.

Money. There’s literally evidence of the abuse and voice recordings. I’m not surprised that a vulnerable victim of abuse stayed

Where was Txiki Begiristain when PSG has signed Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha and Joao Neves? Or Liverpool Gravenberch and MacAllister? If Pep wanted Bruno and love him at Lyon - where was Txiki in January of 2022? Serious question: how it is possible to LOSE every single battle for a midfielder and have zero plan in place to replace Silva, Gundogan, Fernandinho, KDB in time with quality players. This rebuild is chaotic and absolutely without any plan.

We used to be top on the transfer market, now City is the shadow of themselves on the market as well.

Savinho as a Mahrez replacement xD Gosh… Riyad must be laughing right now. 34 year old Mahrez would be better than this fanny. Here we are right now.

You are aware that we live in the real world right, this isnt a video game.
You are aware that this club spent £42m on Kalvin Phillips and £53m on Matheus Nunes. The first is the worst transfer after takeover, the second one is not good enough to play midfield and right now a makeshift right-back. Amazing, isn’t it? This isn’t a video game.
