The Squad planning thread

No chance Everton pay £50m regardless of the option.

Trafford would also probably be a loss rn. So wouldn’t materially help.

Savinho, Bobb and/or Lewis would.
Unfortunately 2 of those 3 would appear to be expendable currently - there may even be a case for all 3.
Decent enough players all of them, but not kicked on enough

We need to get a midfielder in January. Who knows how much Rodri can give this season and can't rely on Kova being fit for 2nd half of the season.

Elliot Anderson or whomever.
2nd half?? Final 3rd/quarter maybe
Return dates already slipped to March.
Hence why a defensive midfielder is once again a key signing.
We can't have any certainty how many games we might get out of Rodders either unfortunately - much as we all hoped the recovery would go better

We have no stable midfield at all
I mean we currently pay with a midfield 2 as Pep has gone with a 3 behind Haaland

Nico is a top player, arguably world class and one of the first names on the sheet. Reijnders isnt getting sold after one year, hes not delivered so far but we've seen his quality. Rodri is still contracted to 2027. That's not including Rico has played a few games in midfield

I think if we get Anderson to partner Nico, supported by Rodri/Reijnders/Lewis were doing pretty well

Edit: also the elephant in the room that NOR is naturally a CM, so while he got the LB slowly locked down he could move into midfield and RAN can cover at LB if needed

Assuming the club will target a player in January, if we can’t prise our preferred DM target, we should have a potential cheap back up until we can get our preferred choice, so that we have cover.

Eric Martel of Koln FC (Cologne) has great potential. Plays mainly as a DM but has also filled in at CB this season and his development is getting him noticed. The good part is he is out of contract in the summer so can be picked up for less than €10m. His club are offering him a massive improvement to tempt him to renew. His current salary is only €13.5k a week. He captained the German U21 team which included Woltemade in the Euros during the summer just gone whom reached the final where they lost to England.

Can't see Anderson being sold in Jan.

Someone mentioned C. Gallagher not too long ago and I really rate that shout. Ederson could also be another option until the summer.

If I was to guess I’d Bobb, Ake, Ortega and Phillips are the only players likely to leave in January.

Of those 4, Bobb doesn’t open up a squad place, Ortega opens up a foreign player space and the other 2 are both association trained.

For future and current planning, there is a sorta funny crazy talented Homegrown list of options for us that would be great long term:

Guehi
Livramento
Anderson
Wharton
Semenyo

These 5 names are popping up alot and all have the common thread of being Homegrown.

I dont think we can go wrong with any of these, getting all 5 (with departures of course) would be an insane push id love but is pure fantasy.

He’s nowhere near world class, are you forgetting what Rodri bring to the game? Organisation, link up play, goals etc. that’s world class
