The Squad planning thread

Lose a game and the sillyness starts, we are growing a new team set backs will happen, next season we'll better again even without new signings which we will get.We weren't ready to go past the quarters anyway, or compete in the final stages of 4 competions.
Yep. In a nutshell. Really don't think we need a million improvements. I really do think all we need is a new back-up goalkeeper (Lunin, for example), a right-back (Livramento), and a midfielder (Anderson).

Donnarumma
Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol
Rodri, [Anderson]
Semenyo, Cherki, Doku
Haaland

[Lunin]
[Livramento], Reis, Khusanov, Ait-Nouri
Gonzalez, O'Reilly
Foden, Reijnders, Savinho
Marmoush

That looks like a squad that can achieve 85+ points to me.

Yes, plus many of that squad will be better from this years experience, especillay if they can get a cup or 2 under their belts.

very nice, if we could add another very good right winger then we would be set. (risk is savinho)

We're still short of technical quality in the middle of the park, and the lack of cohesion in the final third continues to hamper us. We can add more lungs to the middle, in the likes of Anderson, but that's not going to address those other concerns.

Pep needs to trust Cherki to start more games?

Completely, our technical level has dropped massively too. People seem to only focus on the physicality

once Bernardo leaves soon Pep will be in trouble. his workrate and technique combined made him the player he was for us for years. clearly dropped off of him prime levels, understandable after long service.

there arent many around like him, Anderson has stamina, tackling skills etc, but technique and eye for those passing etc? no way comparable to Bernardo.

and it says a lot Bernardo's contract is 3 months off of expiry and still almost 1st name on the teamsheet still.

World Class Bernardo, maybe not, but present Bernardo? Anderson is every bit the passer, and has a more expansive passing range. Beenado might have him beat on the aesthetics of pure ball control, but i think Anderson will quickly surpass late stage Bernardo in terms of impact once he is about 6 months to q year beded into the system.

We really miss a player of KDB’s calibre.

Marmoush, Reijnders, Gonzalez, Doku, Semenyo…. they can all be good players but they’re not top 5 in the world quality and never will be.

We’ve spent an incredible amount of money and wages on…good.

Where are these players of " KDB's calibre" ?

Pretty sure we don't have a total reluctance to get involved in buying or competing for such players.

Club are focusing on physicality because that is what the league is now thanks to lego head. Need to find the sweet spot of physical players with great technical ability.

A profile of player there's maybe 5-10 of each generation.

If you want physicality, players like Semenyo are the best you can do realistically.

Getting sucked into a transitional game just to compete with a team that's set up to reduce all open play and win by scoring corners is the mistake.

Too many players who are great at being the supporting cast, not enough leaders and gamechangers/able to turn and win a game on their own.

Doku, Reijnders, Marmoush, Semenyo, Savinho, Foden, Haaland - all great but not good enough to win games on their own.

Cherki and Rodri are probably the only ones who have the drive and ability to take games by the scruff of the neck and make a solid difference. Rodri by driving the side forward and Cherki by moments of genius.

Showed last night. Nobody out there willing to take a risk and make a substantial difference. Cherki tried when he came on but couldn't do it. But at least he tried.

We should be shopping at the likes of Olise, Dembele, Doue, Vitinha - players who make a difference and put the team on their backs when the going gets tough. Not just players who hide behind the system and play like robots.

We should've gone for Kimmich, I stand by that. He was there for the taking and I bet Pep being here would've made the 'sell' to him a lot easier.

should have gone for Diaz , Liverpool wouldn´t probably sell him to us for any price ,but what a great winger he is and always have been.

Think we need a rebuild with a view to the future.

With that in mind this is next season's starting xi

Donarumma
Nunes Khusanov Guehi Ait Nouri
Nico G Rodri O'Reilly
Cherki
Marmoush Semenyo

Width provided by FBs. More stable midfield.

Subs
Gvardiol
Foden
Reis
Nypan
Stones if he can stay fit

Given that they are senior players and not in my starting xi

Sell Haaland, Bernie, Dias

Given that Savinho and Doku are average at best let's drop the non scoring winger obsession.

Sell them both.

We therefore need a RB and LB as cover. Don't want to shunt O'Reilly around.

And another midfielder. Anderson looks likely to fit the bill. And a top, mobile striker.
Doku has joint 6th amount of big chances created in the PL. He’s been out for two months

Doku keeps trying much longer than most of those around him. Harsh to single him out as mentally weak.
He’s so predictable and gives the ball away a lot. Has one good game in 10 and doesn’t score anywhere near enough goals
