The Squad planning thread

Girona getting champions league almost was a negative, club had to sign over to a blind trust for that year don’t they?
Agreed would have been better them getting into EL or ECL.

If we send some decent youngsters to Palermo they could get promoted as well. They lost in the play offs this season.

Agree. But they were a mess last few years, it’s positive they are now back in a top league.
Yes, delighted that Troyes have a hit at Ligue 1 next season, as it wasn’t that long ago they finished in relegation and nearly ended up in the 3rd tier Championat National league. Only Bordeaux took their place due to financial irregularities keeping Troyes in Ligue 2.

Hope they can sustain a long period and build a good team in Ligue 1.

Good thing that talk about Michel joining City is down
Yea it’s a strange one. Did so well to get Girona into UEFA CL with such a low budget, but ultimately the low budget meant they have not been able to build on it.

Reis I think comes into our squad. Echeverri I have no idea, wouldn’t be totally surprised if he is sold if a decent offer comes in which at least matches what we paid.

I know we can't take foreign players from Spain/Italy etc. until they are 18 but does that ruling work in the other direction also.

Loaned to Troyes or Lyon probably

Really weird the last 2-3 year transfers. Most of them are not the players youd think Pep would want in his team and seems so far away from the way Pep likes to play football. Would like to know the reasons for that. Not like we haven´t spent much money , quite a lot actually in the last 1,5 years and could have gota bit more for that money. Really hope team starts to look for the best players and best talents again.

You could perm players such as prime Mahrez, Silva, Gundogan, Bernardo, and Sane now, but they would all struggle with the increased physicality of the game. The authorities wanted to stop us dominating and allowed the game to become what it is.

Would have won the league easily this season with all of them near their prime. So much better than most of our current wingers and midfielders.

I’d like to think so, but I suspect not. If we look in the transfer forum and the players identified as now needed, and indeed those more recently bought, we can see a preference for physical power over technique.

International transfers of players are only permitted if they are over 18 years of age.

There are tightly regulated exceptions with one being:

EU/EEA Transfers (Aged 16-18): Minors between 16 and 18 can transfer within the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA). The new club must guarantee adequate football training, academic/vocational education, and excellent living standards.

As we are not in the EU we can’t transfer players in and EU countries can’t take players from outside the EU/EEA so that would include English youth
Players.

As I understand it.

OK, let start planning...

Out
£50m - Marmoush
£40m - Nico G (*I'd keep)
£30m - Savinho (*I'd keep unless we can get over 40m)
£30m - Reijnders
£20m - Rico Lewis
£20m - Grealish
£13m - Akanji (confirmed)
£15m - Bah
£15m - Echeverri
£15m - Kovacic
£10m - Ake
£5m - Kabore

Thats about £250m

Obviously if Nico G stays he doesnt need to be replaced, same for Marmoush

Didn't put Trafford aside think Maresca will want to keep, but say if he does go we're getting £40mil

Before incoming, the priority is that we extend the contracts of Gvardiol & Doku (and technically Foden who hasn't officially renewed)

Those are 2 players we need for the future

Also, for me, its non-negotiable we keep Rodri even if he doesnt extend. We can't let him leave

Then incoming obviously Anderson is key, plus a secondary bit less expensive (£50m-£60m) midfielder whether thats Maza or Mateus Fernandes etc.

Also Palestra sounds like an ideal signing, Read also would be good as the RB long term signing

I think Italy and Spain there is cap on non eu pöayer. So Palermo could probably, pick up 1 or 2 of our talented young players.

Woudn't actually write off Rico Lewis just yet.

We know Maresca inverts his full backs so that'll suit Nico O'Reilly to a tee and we know Lewis can play the role pretty effectively too.

If we had to make the best team from what we've got, this would probably be it.

Donnaruma
Nunes Khusanov Guehi O'Reilly
Rodri González
Semenyo. Cherki Doku
Haaland

Not a bad team and if Rodri was back to his best it is a potential League winning side.

The flaw is the 2 midfielders. Rodri as he is not back to his best and the nagging doubt that Nico G is not quite as good as required.

The defence looks good and the attack whilst not PSG levels should be good enough domestically.

Plenty of the fringe players once again showed in the second half that they are too physically and/or mentally weak to be trusted. I’d cut our losses on the usual suspects already mentioned, Rejinders, Savinho, Marmoush, Kovacic etc. Never will be good enough
Rico is basically a home grown passport and little more, a glorified training cone. Probably needs to go for the sake of his career, he doesn’t even make the bench if everyone’s fit

Need to find proper, productive loans for the likes of Mfuni, Alleyne, Nypan, Echeverri, Macaidoo, Heskey etc. Our CFG clubs in Europe are now pretty much all second flight and so a waste of time sending any young City players with a serious future on loan there. The exception is Lommel but the Belgian league is pretty poor
