The Squad planning thread

Rodri seems to be playing us,1st get fit, then at the end of the season, now after the world cup, we need a replacement in, so we take control back.
Nico G, Reijndeers, Kova and Lewis seem to be moving on, we need 2 top players 1st team quality in CM
Agree. Get in Anderson and one of M. Fernandes, Tonali, or A. Scott and go from there...

There is no direct replacement so id take the PSG approach and move away from a traditional number 6 and replace with two nimble excellent 8s who double pivot and can act as 6s, similar to vitinha and neves at PSG. Two players who can run all day, take the ball under pressure from the defence and play out, who are press resilient and can get up and down the pitch while been able to play on the front foot quickly when we are attacking. Anderson could be one of them, pair him with fernandes from west ham and wed have like a shitter version of what PSG have but it might grow to be amazing.

Something like that anyway….
Agree 1000%.

I don't understand the players we are being linked with, Maresca plays touchline wingers and the only one we have is linked to being sold, Doku better inside, Semenyo is a striker that plays on the wing and we are being linked to Kroupi and Rogers who are both AM or S
Thoughts on 23 year old Juve and Portugal RW Francisco Conceicao? Loads of potential. Pacey, slick dribbler with a wicked left footed shot coming off the right. A bit of a scrappy fucker too. Short, but very competitive. Doesn't back off the rough stuff...

Newcastle pushing for Palestra is interesting and frustrating at the same time
They were set on Ekitite too remember.

They will lose out to a bigger club when it comes to something like this. We have won the lot, have European football next season and can pay more due to PSR standing. That said we would probably offer less wages but it’s about the bigger picture.

That's what I'd like to see.

Anderson is a very good player under pressure, with the ability to get us up the pitch too. Something which Vitinha excels at. You can give him the ball anywhere on the pitch and he's effective. Matheus Fernandes similarly, if still a bit raw.

I don't think we're miles off a team like PSG. Their attacking players can excel because they've got support from full back and midfielders who will do so much work for them.

If we have technically good midfielders at the base, we shouldn't lose the ball as much and get overrun. That helps the balance of our side and allows our attacking players to take more risks.

If you look back to our dismantling of Real Madrid, we weren't stacked with pace and energy but every single player was comfortable on the ball and we could pass and move all over the pitch to drag them out of position. We weren't reliant on individual moments of brilliance the way we have been this season - Doku beating his man, Haaland finishing a difficult chance, Cherki producing something outrageous.

100percent agree.

The trick with PSG’s midfield is they have 2 exceptional passers specifically passing forward that are also elite at carrying the ball. Most players in the PL don’t come close to them in those regards even Anderson Matheus Fernandes Bruno G etc. We won’t be able to replicate that especially without Rodri we’d have to lean more towards the duel winning and possession won and find another player who’s elite at passing and carrying.

But you’re 100% spot on. They also have players like Zairre Emery and their fullbacks who are so physical and comfortable swapping positions whenever needed.

I think we this new era should pick a theme and stick to it. Use the strengths that won our trophies and go from there. To me that starts with being able to control games better and pass out from the back. Everything else is just avoiding the elephant in the room imo.

Also the difference with PSG is that most of the teams in the Prem have reverted to what I would call a traditional #9

Haaland, Isak, Sesko, Gyokeres, Watkins, Thiago etc. In that white they can influence play they primarily hold the line and stay focal against a low block

Dembele is a bit more nuanced than those and often pulls out to the wings or deep behind they try to break down teams (less so when countering)
