The Stoke towel situation

a question to the stoke fans on here...is delap worthy of a place without the throw-ins? he doesnt seem to give you much apart from that and you have better footballers on the bench..tuncay has always look a danger.

Yes. Yes, a million times yes. He's our best central midfielder by miles and miles and miles. Absolutely hopeless when he's played out on the right, but seriously under-rated in the middle. Consider the goal that your right winger scored against Stoke at Eastlands last season, where Danny Collins was left marking two men because Faye had disappeared off the face of the Earth. Delap would have spotted that and probably either made the interception or blocked off the first run whilst allowing Collins to deal with the ball on the far post. It's just what he does, he's an incredibly intelligent reader of the game. His passing's not his best strength, it has to be said, but he's well worth his place in the side and it's quite obvious why most of his career has been played in the Premiership.

The other thing he has going for him is that he always does his job very consistently, whilst also prompting his partner in the middle to play far better. For example, Whitehead and Whelan were desperately poor alongside each other, but playing either of them alongside Delap caused them to shine. The same could be said for Wilson, although we haven't seen him alongside Delap very often.

We should do exactly the same as we did against stoke at eastlands under hughes put the fastest 4 players on the half way line when stoke have a set play and watch shawcross etc stand there wondering what to do,we only need big vinnie k back to head it out anyway

the only reason they use the towel is to slow things down to enable the big lumps to come up from the back

there should be a rule that all throw ins should be taken within 10 seconds otherwise the throw goes to the other team

simple really - would keep the game flowing more

Fine - but every single free kick has to be taken with in 10 seconds of the free-kick being given, every goal-kick has to be taken within 10 seconds of the ball going out or a penalty is awarded, every penalty has to be taken within 10 seconds of it being awarded or a penalty is awarded up the other end etc etc

We should make a stand when we get a throw in. Get Zabba to literally just stand still with the ball in his hands for 30 seconds.

-- Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:39 pm --

Often wondered why defending teams make it harder for themselves by crowding the box. Always wondered why teams ddon't just leave men upfield.

Even on corner as well. The amount of corners that don't beat the first man is crazy. Excellent counter attacking opportunities.

Ignorant git ;-P

no problem with stoke or long throws

but it would be interesting to see thier reaction if any team that went 1.0 up started taking 15/20 secs per throw,

i have noticed that sometimes after al towel stuff & big fellas coming up he takes a short one , unsporting , he cant have it both ways

Can we not take one of Carlo's scarfs & plonk them on the outfield?

Mind u Stoke fans would probably nick em
