The term "Uncs"

The only 'reasons' I can see 'uncle' being used as an insult is the association it has with a lot of crime. Thereis also the post above mine by @The Future’s Blue!

I've seen the term used in streaming channels on twitch and the like.
It’s like calling someone, “Boomer”. You just look like a ****.

Unc is predominantly a term of endearment used for older men, whilst simultaneously giving them a gentle ribbing about their age.

I get the confusion from people who haven't been exposed to certain cultures where it's commonly used but I do find the outrage about it really funny.

Agreed!

Watching the majority of BM have head spasms over it is the funniest thing! Yet, they've grown up with the longer terminology all their lives! Yer Pa and Ma's best mates were 'Uncles' and 'Aunties' to kids growing up in the 70s and 80s! Now the 'cool kids' of that period are the old men shaking fists at clouds over it!! LOL!

Talk about knowing what demographic is angry about today's 'cool kids'...

What it sounds like to me is that this thread is full of middle aged (probably white) folks who just aren't up with the times. I'm probably one of them too tbh.

The word Unc, the slang for Uncle has been used for many moons by many cultures. When we were young we used to have 'uncles' who weren't really our uncles but just family friends. It's for the same reason other cultures us it, particularly in South Asia and Africa.

You will always get young people changing the use of words, we used to do it , remember when bad started meaning good and our granddad's were like wtf are they on about, it's the same here, only we're the old ones now.

Ha!!

I was, literally, about to write "it's not 'bad' meaning bad, but 'bad' meaning good"; a direct lyrical phrase recognised by some of us from the 80s on LL Cool J's "Bad" album (one of the best ever) imo.

Have you actually read what people are saying when they say it? It’s not a term of endearment. In the same way, as you have highlighted, people have appropriated “woke” in an unpleasant way.

You are kind of contradicting yourself.

No, I'm not contradicting anything. You can get triggered by the negative use of the word, reclaim it for its original use or just ignore it.

People flipping their collective wigs over twitter users that might get 500 reposts on a media app that has millions on it, is just crazy to me. People need to go out and touch grass!

Crazy!

Touch grass.

Ok.

Never seen a forum more in need of a football game judging by this thread. Without a community shield game to panic about everyone has lost their heads having to wait another week.

This thread is bonkers and clearly out of touch. Uncs is a term of endearment for the youth. Hell even Yaya was called Uncle Yaya by players in the squad for years

It's not a term of endearment though when the only it is used is to say we should "fuck the uncs off" is it?

That’s not great but personally I’ve seen it used in more ways than that… don’t think it’s an issue when being used as a collective term for the older players

Bonkers is correct!

Even taking into account the capture of twitter trolls and their 'unc' usage, most don't have 2 hearts and one or two have less than 200 reposts!!

The thread, basically, flipping out over nobodies!!
