Took my son to the match attax (football card collection/game) at the National Football Museum, and they had several events where young kids were on stage, and I would say that City supporting kids outnumbered rag brats by about 4 to 1, and the ones with rag shirts tended to look fucking embarrassed - it hasn’t taken long, and I wonder what it would be like if they had 30 or 40 years of proper shite like we did

Anyone that knows their football history knows that so called big clubs happen for a reason and that reason is well managed investment. Arsenal had it in the 30s, United 40/50s, Liverpool in the 60s and now us in the 00/10s. Once that happens young fans who bless em have no idea of history just a basic grasp of the present make a choice. Nothing wrong with that but when they are much older and wiser they should learn their history and I really hope that those young lads with their city kits do just that.

I think Arsenal's success in the 1930’s was down to more than well-managed investment!

Yes your right, also imagine a 12 year old, takes one look at Lumpkaku and then at Sergio, who's he gonna choose as a hero ? :)

Also young brilliant players like Sane and Raz attract kids imo.

Wait till Pass- master Foden takes the stage....there will be a stampede for all things City.and England.
This is what the rag masses,in the lofted posistions in media and corridors of football power fear most.
The effect on the youth will be more explosive than the arrival of' Hooch' in the 80s.
Watched the scotland england u21 game earlier,Foden was a breath of fresh air when he came on,the only player from both sides who knew what to do with the ball, instinctively, every time-he didnt get everything right, but he he tried to do the right thing..everytime....promising....because he understands that football is a team game, 1 or 2 touches will suffice, the ball moves faster than any man...other players were hogging the ball or trying too hard to impress. Our Phil was class,in a 20 min cameo.
The fact that Foden is getting more minutes than Sanchez over at utd says it all,no wonder the rag kids looked embarrassed at The Football museum as as an earlier poster said....the tide is definitely turning.

Are you insinuating Ander Herrera and his illustrious sideways passing isn't a huge draw?

How long till we see an effect at the turnstile? That is the test at both clubs.

Do we see a change? It's difficult to tell at City as we are constrained by capacity and season ticket caps.

I just got back from a week in Tenerife and I noticed a similar thing going on over there - loads of kids in City shirts, barely saw any Rag ones. Also saw loads of City tops in the souvenir shops on the sea front with De Bruyne on the back next to the likes of Messi, Ronaldo etc. but no Rag shirt in sight!

It shows how quickly it starts to happen too. We're only talking about 7 years of tangible success.

And let's be honest, whether younger people can afford it. Football is becoming more and more middle-aged, because youngsters are getting priced out. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the fan makeup in 30 years time. Will there be as many people who've been going every week for 30 years, or will it be full of more casual fans watching football like they'd go to a concert?

And how little of a drop off is required. It's hardly as if they've had years in the wilderness. They've finished second twice and even won the league in that time. But certainly outside Manchester, when the only reason for supporting a team is that they're successful, a few years without a trophy is all it takes for kids to choose someone else.

Down where I am there are a few very unlucky glory hunters who are Blackburn fans... ;-)

Didn't see as many raggy shirts on sale in Rhodes & there were a few more but not many City shirts for sale.

What I did see though were 6/7 blues wandering around and zero rags.

My wife comes from the Isle of Man, and we go over there on the ferry once a year to visit family. We travel home on a Saturday, and in the past I have seen swathes of Dipper fans going to games, and a fair number of Rags too. Coming home this year on the day of the Fulham game, there were dozens of kids in City shirts obviously going to the game. I have never seen that before.

In an out of the way place inTurkey this year, I passed one of those all-weather pitches the kids come out to play on in the evening when it gets cooler. Saw no rag shirts but one City with DeBruyne on the back.

Presumably some of that is due to David Silva who's from one of the Canary Islands, and Guardiola for being Spanish?

I live in Pilkington in the East Riding Of Yorkshire not far from hull. There were a group of kids playing footy and 5 had city shirts on with only 1 Leeds and 1 hull shirt. Only a small town but how times have changed.
