The Titanic

I would do the decent thing and kill myself. I get claustophobic in a Matallan changing room never mind something that is the size of a car, two and half miles down in a completly hostile and alien environment with over 350 times more pressure than sea level knowing full well you're going to die in the freezing cold anyway, very shortly. Got to be the most god awful way to die, I really wish them all well but much bigger planes and ships have been lost in much shallower waters and never found.
They didn't find the Titanic wfeck until 1985
What chance if this thing is stuck on the bottom have they of finding it, I'd say zero

I get that curiousity angle. I'd double/treble check it was safe as fuck as I'm a big wuss.
Me too. I didn't even get on a plane until I was 51, and I'm still scared when I do (vivid imagination isn't always a good thing).
Yet I admire those who know the risk of a venture but still take it. It's why I have always loved George Mallory.

The world is a dangerous place, but what a bloody journey.

This is the thing, under water, mountains, jungles, space, arctic, etc etc all want to kill you, so why do it, I've never got it
If its a wealth thing, surely you can get your kicks elswhere

Like what ? Everything has a danger element whether it’s bungee jumping, jumping out a plane or climbing a mountain - people of all different backgrounds and wealth can do these things. For some they want to experience all these things rather than sit at home and watch TV all day.
No one should begrudge them and be callous about their deaths imo.

Who's being callous? Don't put words in my mouth, cheers
what I'm saying is exactly what you said but I recon all those things want you dead and that for me is a fucking huge reason to find something else to float my boat

earlier post someone mentioned they had no sympathy for those having an adventure and going missing/dying like this. Personally thought that was harsh.

I suspect there has been a major failure and the sub has imploded, i would have thought if it was sat on the ocean floor with them inside it sonar would have been able to pick up and banging on the hull. Or maybe i've watched too many wartime submarine movies.

Apparently a UK salvage company based in Jersey are still awaiting permission from US authorities to go there.

These guys have specialist equipment and knowledge for diving as deep as 5000m. Military sub specs vary but I doubt the USN will reveal classified specs. I guess it would physically take time that the trapped crew don't have to get their equipment on site.

They're a long way down, I fear this will have a tragic outcome.

Poor bastads what a shit way to go. Hope it was quick.

Too damn right, that's like someone saying that they had no sympathy for the 257 people (20 were crew) who died on board the DC-10 in 1979 in the Antarctic. All those people wanted to see was a once in a lifetime sight and have an adventure, but someone at Air New Zealand changed the flight co-ordinates without informing the pilots, only to end up flying into a mountain known as Mt Erebus, when they thought they were flying over McCurdo Sound. The video taken by a passenger of people walking round the plane having drinks and taking photos out of the windows 5-10 minutes before impact is one of the most errie and heartbreaking things I've ever seen. There is even video footage that is slown down of the explosion and flames, before what looks like jet oil on the windows.

As for hoping those people on the Titanic sub having a quick and unexpected death, I hope it was too, what a horrible and tragic way to go. It was the same for those on flight 901, they were all happy unaware of what was going on within the flight deck. I hope they went into some sort of black out period, meaning they wouldn't have felt any pain. They're not going to make it, I just cannot see it happening:(.

RIP to both parties.

Looks like Hollywood won't be making a movie out of this one, cos if they did it would be a pretty shit ending...
