The Titanic

Anyone give this thread 36hrs tops before it turns into a tapping sound based conspiracy theory pile of shit, or not even that long?
Genuinely heard the conspiracy today that the titanic never sunk, and that this disappearance of the submersible is the billionaire’s way of running off with his money and faking his death. I pointed out that the titanic part of his conspiracy is irrelevant to his point, but he said that it was an important part of the conspiracy. I don’t think he’s grasped it sunk in 1912. Reckons if it wasn’t a fake scenario, they’d have put a GPS beacon on the top of the submersible as they’re about £35 on Amazon.

Couldn’t be arsed to listen anymore. Just left him to it.

You're right, you wouldn't make the six o'clock news. But this did, primarily because it involved the titanic, which many have a morbid fascination with, and also because there was a real chance the people on board were about to suffer an agonising death. It was always going to be headline news. You suggested people wouldn't be bothered if you fell to your death from a ladder, which is nonsensical. Because the people close to you would surely be cut up.
That is fine, of course those close would care , the point is because this has been on the news some think the genreal public should care and also have sympathy for idiots who took unecessary risks because they could afford to.

the new is telling people to give a shit, personaly I don't and find it hypocritical to just because its on the telly

millions die everyday naturally, by accident or by stupidity and all deaths are saddening and to be mourned, but these lot are no more worthy of remorse than anyone else because they died trying to view the titanic

Well we know the body wouldn’t be crushed like a tin can as scientists have done these experiments - below is an alligator they dropped to the bottom of the ocean and externally the appearance is not affected, now of course it’s an alligator not a human, but the effects would be the same externally - of course internally as said your rib cage would cave in and your thoracic cavity would be pulp.

Rapid decompression is probably the wrong term - rapid change of pressure more accurate!
Or rapid compression, even?

I would have preferred the lack of oxygen, I imagine that's fairly peaceful and I probably could have written one last message to family
Lol !!
Oxygen slowly running out would be peaceful !?

One last message to family ? LOL !!! I imagine you’d struggle to get a phone signal 4000 m deep in the ocean fella…

Not sure a piece of paper would survive lol.

Do dangerous shit, expect dangerous consequences.

Wouldn’t be a nice way to go but about 170,000 people die in the world every day and thousands will be more horrific than this.

Pretty much this. I feel very sorry for them but it’s no different to those that die climbing Everest to me, they were well aware of the risks.

The difference with this one as well is I imagine the search and rescue costs for this must have been absolutely huge. It’s an incredibly costly form of adventure if it goes wrong.

That and I can’t quite get my head around the guy taking his son, given his knowledge of the risks involved.

Pretty sure you just lose consciousness, I'd prefer neither but would prefer that over implosion.

I also wasn't suggesting text messages! There are other ways!

In the no oxygen scenario I was assuming the sub stayed intact (and could be recovered) for messages to survive. Either in notes on phones (if they took them down, I imagine they did for pictures) or any way to write.

With an implosion you’d be dead in less than a second and wouldn’t even have time to even comprehend what was coming. Seems better than slowly dying or waiting to die over several days.

hats off to them i say, they all went to their deaths doing what they love, rich or skint makes no diference, 100s have died in aviation history since the wright brothers and not in vain because things get improved and as a result you and me jump in a tin can and travel at 35,000 feet for our love of holidays, its only the same but instead of up in the sky your under the water, what i do think is wrong is the selling of seats, but then again aviation did the same
