How many points will be needed to win the league?

Liverpool aren't the team they were between 2018-20 and I don't think they're as good as us or even Arsenal but they don't necessarily have to be in order to win the league. They only have to be better than the rest to have a chance. One thing they do have is 5 forwards who consistently get goals and that will see them win the majority of their games almost by default which could be enough if we slip up against some of the lesser teams.

Our match against them this time next month will be be one of the most highly anticipated games in a long time. I'd probably take a point now if offered but we may need to go there and win. I know we won there in 2021 but this is our last chance to win at Anfield under Klopp with fans in the stadium and I reckon it's something our players and especially Pep are desperate to tick off. It would feel a bit like closing a chapter on the rivalry.

I’m weirdly looking forward to the Anfield trip, I think the belief within the team with what’s been achieved winning 5 trophies since May, and that they have gone to places like the Bernabau and Allianz arena and controlled both games. It feels like the winning machine is going up through the gears and we are due to wipe the floor with them at Anfield. Would be delicious if we did.

I'd include the game at Bournemouth too. Three wins to see out maximum points in February would be very nice ahead of the tougher fixtures.
Yeah, I agree that we should be beating them too. The only reason I separated the next two games from the rest is because they're at home which should in theory make them slightly easier.

Liverpool > Arsenal > Brighton > Villa is obviously the most challenging sequence on paper but just before that is the derby which can be a leveller and just before that is Bournemouth which I included in the difficult run mainly because it's away from home on a tight pitch.

That's not to say I'm taking Chelsea and Brentford for granted by the way because I'm well aware that football rarely works out how you think it will.

We did off course 'wipe the floor' with them to the tune of 4-1 during the 20-21 season iirc.?

If we want to win the league, we have no option but to go there and win.

Well, with respect, I think that's overstated. It sure as hell would make life easier if we did, though.
As much as anything, though, I truly want us to win because the first match annoyed the hell of me. We were better. Should absolutely have walked away with the three points.

Same, although I'm sure the nerves will kick in just before kick-off.

I sincerely hope you're right, it would be perfect timing if we've saved such a performance for Klopp's sendoff and potentially derail their title challenge in the process.

It was vital for us to win today, and we did. We're fine where we stand in relation to Liverpool. We now have two home matches in the league, and one away (to Bournemouth). All three are eminently winnable. We are looking quietly ferocious and determined. I actually now think, looking ahead, that by mid-March, when we will have to go to Anfield, we could have opened up clear daylight between us and them.
Still like to win there, though…
